At Christmas we wanted to go to Edinburgh but everywhere was full. So we decided to go to Glasgow and booked a holiday self catering caravan in Stepps near to Glasgow. Our daughter booked in at a hotel nearby and we all set off on Boxing Day for a week. When we got there no one was to be seen only a man working on a caravan and he told us to use the phone outside reception to call the site manager. This we did and he came and led us to the caravan, being disabled I waited in the car whilst my wife went in with him when he showed her how to put a pre pay electric card in the meter and off he went. Within seconds we were calling him back again because there was no gas in the bottle outside. But that was just the start, when I got into the caravan it was so filthy I could not believe anyone would live in it. The carpets were soiled with oil and dirt beyond belief in every room and wallpaper was falling off the walls, there was no light in the washroom and the wheelie bin outside the caravan was so full of rubbish you couldn't have got a single thing in it. There were no curtains in the bedrooms and we had to wait whilst some one came to put them up, we also had to ask the same person for a brush to sweep out the caravan. We decided against complaining at the time because of it being Christmas and the possibility of not getting in anywhere and if the manager had led us into this caravan in the first place he would hardly care if we went away as we had already handed over our money. We then decided to make the best we could out of the situation because our daughter was close by in her hotel and we couldn't disappoint her. So we settled down and plugged in the electric fire to get warm and put the kettle on this got the plugs very hot and I couldn't see why it should, that is until we started putting the food away in the compartment beneath the sink. The two sockets each side of the sink were linked via an old double adapter and a makeshift wire that ran under the sink where the wife had the toaster working. And to rub salt into our wounds the gas bottle that was supplied when we got there ran out of gas after just 4 days and they wanted another £22 for another bottle, this was enough to get us to say enough is enough and we went back home to Stoke. I have emailed this company time and time again to try and get them to refund my money but as I originally thought once they had our money getting it back wasn't going to be easy and they have done nothing but lie through their teeth to refuse. I then sent an email to the Environmental Health in North Lanarkshire telling them of my experiences and they called me when they had visited the site. They told me that they had made them take out the wiring and agreed with me that the carpets were soiled ect they thanked me for bringing this to their attention but said that they could not get me a refund but I never expected they would. So I tried again with another email to ask the caravan site for a refund and guess what they have offered (a free week on their site) I don't think so. I do not know if it's worth taking these people to court even though I took photographs of the whole mess. Any helpful advice would be welcome.
