there are a couple of things that are gran canaria in general. 2 water parks sioux city and holiday worls, you can go on camal rides amd that watersports are fab aswell. we actualy went whale watching which was really cool.

we were at pdi in august 04 with my two children aged 8 & 10. We went to loro parque in tenerife which was great except there was a lot of travelling in the bus and the boat was very rocky. The waterparks in maspalomas are great for the kids and sioux city (western theme park) is also good with a free barbecue thrown in and free drinks all night. There is also jeep safari and the dreaded camels too. In maspalomas there is holiday world although we didn't go to it i heard from others it was good.
I hope this helps. It was very hot when we were there so take plenty of high factor suncream. I used factor 25 for the two weeks and total sunblock on my children.
