Oh well then my mistake --- Not sure what the building are in the middle of the island then but they certainly had tourists in them.

Number 391 onwards ---- Hmmmm, a 30-45 minute walk to the restaurant , pool and bar from there... Also situated right next to the harbour.... But I suppose you get the best view of the sunset !

LMK how you get on when ya get back..

Is it really that long of a walk, not that I don't mind walking. Is it not possible to cut through the middle or would you recommend hiring bikes?

I suppose if i got one of the early ones after 391 wouldn't be too bad, they are just to the right of the water bungalows.

Also Daza are there any locations around the Island which are best for snorkelling, particularly interested in trying to see some of those small sharks round the reef.

Cheers

Depends what number villa you get -- If you are next to the harbour then depending on how quick you walk it would take you anything upto 30 mins (the island is large) you can hire bikes but we never did so unsure of cost, also you are restricted to where you can park them up.

Best place for snorkelling --- Italian Restaurant -- This is right on the edge of the house reef and has easy access to the water, also this is where the divers start off from.

If you are into fish then I sugest visting the harbour around 8.30pm -- Hand Feeding of the Giant Manta Ray (every night)... Now this is what ya call fish.. !!

Anyway --- gotta dash and get my stuff ready for my holidays.... Off to Cuba on Thursday so need to get all the washing sorted.

Hi
has anyone been to any of the following islands in the maldives

komandoo, athuruga, thudufushi

I have been to Lily Beach which I loved. Looking for an island similar to Lily....a/l, good snorkelling, good food, friendly, no getting up at the crack of dawn to get a sunbed. If anyone has been to any of these islands as well as Lily Beach I would be interested to know their preference and why.

Hi,

I have been to Maldives a couple of times, stayed at Hilton, Reethi Beach and Paradise. But lucky for me I was able to visit some other islands including Kuramathi Blue Lagoon, Lily Beach and Sun Island.

Personally as for an AI package I would prefer the Kuramathi Blue Lagoon. Although I stayed only one day at the resort I can recommend them above others. The resort has fantastic beaches and snorkelling is great. Clean and beautiful rooms including water bungalows.

Do you know that Hilton Maldives now has an underwater restaurant, magnificient I would arrange my next trip to Hilton or the newly opened One & Only Reethi Rah.

I made my arrangements online with a company based in Maldives called Corporate Travels, I would suggest that you contact with them, you can live chat with them and get all your questions answered. their website add is http://www.corporatetravelsandtours.com. Their rates are great and service splendid. :D

Hi,

Personally from my experience I think it might be a good idea to upgrade once you are there at the resort. Not that it would be cheaper but you would be able to compare the services you get better.
AI is a good option when you do not intend to take much options, it includes limited drinks. sports and food mostly has to be taken from the main restaurant. But if you take HB or BB you will be able to enjoy more restaurants and variety.
Perhaps you could contact one of the local tour operators. I have trevelled with an agent called Corporate twice. They are a small agent and provides very client oriented services. http://www.corporatetravelsandtours.com that's their website
Best of luck

Still looking. Not sure whether we can afford to go to the Maldives as well as the states next year (family reunion). Also time of year an issue with us again. Will do some costing but if it ain't gonna happen then there's always 2007.

Hi. I worked in the Maldives for the previous three years and have visited around 20 of the resorts. So if you have any questions... let me know. I'd recommend Filitheyo - it's a stunning location (away from all other resorts), the food is great & huge selections, and the island is large enough to feel spacious.

Hi, sorry I've only stopped over at the lagoon at Lily Beach on the seaplane. It's in a lovely atoll - the Ari - which is well known for having beautiful diving spots & some of the bigger sealife, the whalesharks during their season. There are lots of other islands around so the views are beautiful. As I understand it the resort is about a 3 star and is a basic standard but retains a 'maldivian' atmosphere (more relaxed) which some of the larger/more commercial islands dont have anymore. Here you'll probably find the local staff mixing a little with the guests, playing vollyball, etc. Some of the larger 5-Star resorts frown on this but I think it makes the holiday. Hope you have a great time. 8)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I need some help..... Can anyone recommend a resort in the Maldives for our honeymoon next year? I want it to be really special so do not want to make an incorrect choice and have the holiday from hell.

We have looked at an island resort called Filitheyo which looks great. Does anyone have any feedback on this resort? Is it suitable for a Honeymoon getaway?

Any further recommendations would be greatly received.

Cheers!

P.S Really want all-inclusive.

I had a fortnight in Komandoo a few years back. Amazing place, and it's been upgraded since. Have a look at the website (INVALID URL I don't think it does it justice, but it was an excellent holiday.

Hi pierre545

can you tell me if Komandoo has a house reef and if so how far out from the island is it.

Many thanks Sandra

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a house reef? The corals are not that far out and the snorkelling is really good. I recall actually snorkelling my way around half the island one afternoon. Turtles are common where the corals get deep.
If I can be any more help, let me know.
