Parking used to be $8 at the parks. May have gone up by now. Universal free after 6pm...not sure about the other parks though.

Parking is $8 per day in Disney and that ticket is valid all day for all the parks. So if for instance you want an early start and then chill out in the afternoon before returning to another park for the fireworks all you have to do is show your ticket at the booth and they wave you through.

allow 8-10 hours to get to the keys.

It took us almost 5 hours to get to Miami!

we are going for the first time in October and are wondering do we need a car we don't really fancy the driving but will we still be able to get about or would it make life easier to have a car.

hi diane it all depends on where you are staying if you are staying on the international drive there is the tram or shuttle services to all the theme parks if you are staying in a villa you really need a car to get about as everything is far apart ide reccomend a car

We are staying on international drive in the quality inn international.

International Drive is probably the best area to stop if you don't want to drive, fairly central to all the main parks and plenty of choice for eating out in the evenings. I'd still advise having a car though, it adds so much to the holiday and driving in Orlando is pretty easy!

I would never go to Orlando without a car - it just gives you thay much freedom so if you can afford it get one......driving is easy and all the places are relatively easy to find......

Can you hire a car whilst you are in florida. If we feel we need on for a few days will it be easy enough or will it work out very expensive doing it this way.

Fairly cheap, c.$25 a day for the rental, BUT then another $20 for the insurance so depending on what type of deal you could get through your UK travel agent it may be better to take a car for the whole time and only use it when you want to.....

You can book a car for a few days and even collect/drop off on I-Drive at the Holiday Inn Hotel (6515 International Drive) . Booking here is cheaper, in the US you will be hit with CDW, SLI insurance etc. which will greatly increase the costs.

Link to suggested places to book below, both usually MUCH cheaper than using a travel agent or the car that comes "free" with a fly-drive package :)

Rough guide for 1 week on a 4 door compact (Mondeo size) £133 with full insurance and a free tank of gas :)
Reply
Sorry Jeff, but a compact 4 door is highly unlikely to be the size of a Mondeo, this would be a standard car. A 4 door compact will almost be the size of Focus but most realistically will be something like a Hyundai Accent 4 door.

Most use Chrysler Neons which are a fair size :)

Hi Jeff..............Had a chrysler Neon before, I would compare it more to an Astra or Ford Focus in regard to space. If your looking for a Mondeo sized car then you would have to go for an Intermediate sized...........had one the past two weeks and was given a Dodge Stratos.............which is more in keeping with a Mondeo or a Vectra.

I know it is a while since you went to Orlando but.....

Did you stay at the Marriott Residence Inn? We have booked to go there in November - the 17th to be exact, cant wait, soooo excited!

This hotel doesent seem to be mentioned very much so if anyone has been there I would appreciate views as we have time to change it if it is a bit "ropey"!!!

many thanks
