Do you mean the underground lakes? We were there in May. Visted Sami as well.

Not a great deal there but very nice if you like a quiet holiday.

Went to Kefalonia in 2002 and it was lovely. Town is nice, but we stayed in Scala, a lovely place. My tip is to visit Mounda Beach near Scala, sometimes called turtle beach, lovely place, unforgettable day spent there

It is definitely worth getting a car out for a few days. The island has a very dramatic coastline and you will be amazed when you see some of the mountain goats and the positions they get themselves into.
Assos is a nice little resort and it is worth visiting Fiskardo, but it is a bit pricey. You can take the car across to Ithaca which is worth doing for a day trip as the crossing does not take long.
The Melissani lake ,as shown in the above photo, is a welcome break from the heat but make sure you don`t get a grumpy boatman like we did..

Do hire a car and get out - there are some lovely places.
We stayed in Agia Efimia, worth a visit for a spot of lunch. They also have ferries running from there which are considerable cheaper than the price a rep would offer you.

Lovely picture Sallybear, wanted to go there, but I`m not very agile, and didn`t think I`d be able to get in and out of the boat. As you know, I`ll definitely second that about Mounda Beach, we actually stayed there, our apartment was about 100yds from the beach, and it was a brilliant week, absolutely loved the island. Went on a boat trip to Lefkada from Aghia Efemia, the water there was as calm as a duck pond, and the place was so beautiful!

Thanks all. I will be hiring a car as I've heard so many nice things about many of the resorts. I'm actually getting married in Kefalonia and would welcome any restaurant recommendations for immediately after my wedding. Thomas Cook will recommend me some upon my arrival but I always prefer Joe Publics preferences than travel agents.
