I had to laugh though when I read your post as I can't understand why anybody would want to abroad and look for an English pub
I tend to avoid a lot of these pubs as British pubs are just seen as English pubs, and as i have said elsewhere before, as a Scot i dont always feel welcome in them (sadly)
But abroad your on holiday you can stay out late with your kids in a relaxed trouble free enviroment, and for once they can stay out a bit later.. whats the harm in that
These pubs are always busy so I cant be the only one, If its a british pub scots irish english in my experience have always been welcome, But its a shame if some dont make that their policy....silly really because their losing business
I agree about these type of pubs abroad though, they are better for kids.....although in recent years i would say that people dont look after their kids so much in the pubs, and it can spoil things.....saw a few examples whilst in Spain!
I see what you mean about the pubs, Ive seen scottish pubs abroad and probably wouldnt go in for the same reason, funny lot us brits arnt we! Mind you when scotland are playing football I always want them to win unless it effects England of course...
Im sure the scots do the same for us!!!
I rarely go into British pubs when I'm not on holiday . I can see no reason why I would want to drink Carling Black label and watch footie on Sky when I'm 1000 miles away from home! Plus 'British' pubs abroad are usually full of those Brits that you have travelled 1000 miles to get away from . All wearing red Engerland footie tops and singing here we go, here we go, here we go at the tops of their voices!
thats wrong
But like Hi de Hi says, those pubs with English footy, English beer, etc....no real appeal to me either!
Know what you are saying Pat, but i suppose a Scottish pub is aiming at Scots...even though the one that used to be in Estartit attracted a lot of English peeps! If these pubs want to aim for English people (as a lot of them do) then they should do so.....instead of using the guise of British pubs when they really arent! Places such as the fighting cocks in Estartit i just wouldnt go near.....they dont appeal!
Dont take my comments as anti-british though, Pat, as you can see my Avatar is a Scottish Union Flag!
