hi everyone,
I have just had a middle aged work colleague come back from an "allocated on arrival" holiday in Rhodes. He was telling me that of his dissapointment when he was told they were to be housed in Faliraki, but once they arrived there they were, I kid you not the only two people in the hotel, the whole place was empty, they were talking to the locals and the hotel owner and apparently there is a big police crackdown on the yobbish culture, in particular the 18-30's. There are financial problems with the hotel causing major trouble for hotel and apartment owners in faliraki. Has anyone else got any information on this problem, it would be interesting to hear!!!
I lived on the island for a couple of years and to be fair the resort was only ever good fun, it was never the hedonistic hell portrayed in the press. I suppose there's no entertainment factor in showing 'normal' youngsters enjoying a couple of weeks in the sun .
The problem now is, since all the bad publicity, the resort has lost it's identity. The police have clamped down on the louts, many tour operators pulled out and they are now trying to re-invent Faliraki as a family destination. Trouble is it's been a young fun destination that long that it now has a name as such so families aren't keen to visit. And Faliraki is not really designed for families as they expect a much better standard of accommodation than the cheap, basic, cells that a group of 20 year olds would be happy to stay in.
Personally i think it's bad news particularly for locals who once had succesful businesses in the resort. Like it or not (and i'm probably getting past the age to benefit!) but we need lively resorts like the Faliraki of old where the younger ones can go and drink themselves silly well away from families with children.
Can understand your point of view marcus but I've been visiting Malia for the last 20 years virually every year and I'm sorry to say that it's gone from fun to over the top with windows being broken peeing in the streets and violent behaviour at times that aint fun even some of the bar owners who I know personally am a bit peed off with it and in the end it will end up with a crackdown like faliraki and then the yobs will be moaning they've got nowhere to go poor dears.
I'm travelling there in 4 1/2 weeks, i have heard on another website that there are much more families and couples going there now rather than groups of girls/boys.
falaraki is dead this year seems the "IN " island and place to go to is Laganas on Zante , there was a report in the daily mail on saturday which painted a falaraki pt 2 and also some YOB has been arrested for walking down the street with his pants and trousers round his ankles , seems that the 18-30 lot have moved on and left the trail of destrauction and holiday resorts in the midt , Falaraki will not recover for quite a few years deue to the TV programme and Playa des Ingles and in fact the whole of Gran Canaria has been extremely quiet since the programme shot there was aired , seems Zante is going to be the next victim

Yeah but if all the yobs have gone, doesn't this make falaraki a better place to visit now as there isn't likely to be any trouble etc?
I was thinking that, i wanted to got here but i didnt really want the trouble with it being my first holiday with my bf and not my parents
im going to falaraki in 4weeks with my bf, its our first holiday without parents. I'm not worried about there being trouble as if less ppl going and its more family/couple orientated, it should be fine.....
Faliraki here we come in less than four weeks time
We are two groups of families, so ClaireLou if you see four strange kids and even more strange adults, its us, so come and say hello
I am sure you will still have a good time, a holiday is what you make it, I'm sure it won't be dead but just about right.
enjoy
Holidays are what you make them yourself as long as the digs are clean I'm usually happy.I have passed through Faliraki and it does look ok trouble is I'm addicted to Lindos.

Stayed at Orion Apartments in Faliraki 4 years ago. This is located just off Bar Street towards outskirts and we didn't experience any problems. By the way, these Apartments have a Restaurant on the front which was the best in Faliraki at that time. Anyone interested, Kosmar have got it in their brochure, would most certainly stay there again. Clairelou, as others have said in this Forum, the holiday is what YOU make it. Without the yob culture being there, it could make for a dream break for you and your partner. Sincerely hope you have a great time. Be interested in reading your report on your return.
What is the likelyhood we will come across 'yobbos' in Lindos at the beginning of sept?
From what iv read im thinking not great but the missus had a bit of trouble with yobbos on holiday last year and it basically made her and her friends holiday a bit of a misery, I would just like to be able to reassure her everything will be fine (esp since Lindos was my choice )
It's very unlikely you'll meet a gang of yobs in Lindos, though lively it's a bit more upmarket than Faliraki. The worst you'll probably see is a stag night as there are so many weddings but even these are generally low key.
I'm sure your other 1/2 will be pleased with your choice - Lindos is a fantastic resort and i'm one of the many that returns year after year! September is also the best month to visit as it's still very hot but without the KILLER heat of July/August - enjoy !!
You will not meet any yobbos in Lindos, we were there last year in August and it was lovely.
However, beware of fat germans astride the poor donkeys on their way up to the acropolis
lol Fat Germans on donkeys! Now thats not a very pleasing mental image Thanks for the reassurance. What kind of music can we expect in the bars? Im hoping not all dance/ R&B type stuff! Im more into Rock/60's music with a splash of 80's nostalgia thrown in.
Both bars easy to find - 60s bar is on the main street down into the village from Lindos Reception (where the bus drops you if you're staying in the village centre). Lindos By Night is just uphill from the donkey station (which is minus the donkeys and fat germans in the evenings!).
This is something I feel quite strong about. I am 20 and mostly go on holiday with my boyfriend I have been on 2 'girly holidays too' we have been going twice a year for the last three years and although we are not boring (by no means are we that!) I always try and avoid these so called 18-30 resorts, but the way things are going now no where will be safe soon!!!
Why cant the 18-30's crowd just stay in the one place!!!! first it was falaraki, malia, laganas, playa del ingles, playa de las americas, magaluf and if the rumors are true next will be sidari in corfu!! etc...... I would love to try some of these places but the thought of doging vomit in the streets really puts me off.
It disgusts me the way these people think that just because they are not at home they can act like animals they have no respect for the local people and enviroment.
I just had to put my views across i am not boring i am out getting legless with my mates every week and do so on holiday but i have respect!!
thanks
just back from Faliraki, had a great time.... weather really hot, really cheap out there, lots of things to do.
You'll have a great time out there, i want to go back next year! where u staying?
