It's me again, also do the fridges in the rooms have Ice boxes or are they just chillers?
Thats in May/Aug/Oct 3 times a years.
This year we have noticed a considerable change
Not only in staff but in price of food/drink/ hoilday goods.
It would appear that the son of the owner (uno) will be running the show very soon,
This year it was what music/games/etc that he wanted NOT what the guests wanted.
My wife asked for 6 tea bags yes 6 and he charged her 16 ltr thats about
£6.00.
when asked about the charge he told her to like it or lump it (in Turkish)
The total atmospher has changed and we beleive before long it will have changed from a nice family run holiday to one for 18/30
what a shame so we are moving on next year.
But dont let this put you off it my be your kettle of fish
thats what i mean, reading all these positive reports about olu and turkey makes me sound like a right pain in the... with all the moaning i do but glad to see someone else has noticed the shift in attitiude, they werent nasty about things just more like, well if you dont like it etc... and if you questioned theri judgement they just seemed to look at you till you backed down! or is that just weakling me,( see my post on jewellrey in turkey) Some meals that we were served that werent what we ordered, and you couldnt complain cos it was either "sorry dont speak English" or "yes that IS chicken stroganoff" even though it was clearly chicken casserole, ive had it before so i know what it is and there is a picture of it on the flippin menu that says casserole, but staff look at you as if you dont know what you are talking about and offended them! is it all a ploy? so in the end it became a joke as to what eachother would get on the plate, and this was at numerous places too!! Even hubby had words with a certain shopkeeper about his constant rounding up of the bill( never rounded down) from 4.20 to 5ytl and giving change in sweets, last year when it was millions fair enough but now they have the change, hubby said i dont want sweets i want my change which if you add it up over the hol (80p) everytime adds up! he said next time i come in and get something ill give you a couple o lira and the rest in werthers originals see how you like it!! He got his change,. hope im not going off topic again, sorry if i am,
I thought the hotel was really nice with lovely well-kept grounds. My daughter and I upgraded to a 'luxury room' which was very nice but a little 'unfinished'.
I agree with your comments about the atmosphere in the hotel. They run a 'card system' which I was overcharged on a couple of times and was made to feel I was a 'troublemaker' because I queried it!?
The music by the pool was played really loudly, not usually appropriate music for a 'family hotel', definately the barmans choice. The childrens pool was next to the bar so I frequently was asking them to turn it down. At one point, the barman turned it up so it was incredibly loud just to antagonise me, which upset my 2 year old! I only had a drink in the bar on one evening as I felt so uncomfortable.
I was on holiday alone with my little girl, and while they were friendly to her most of the time, not one person, other than Ali, the manager, bothered to find out my name, unlike many other places I have stayed in.
I e-mailed Ali on my return thanking him for a good holiday, but also letting him know that I and many others were complaining about the music which would lose them custom. He did reply and said he would have (another) word!
Whilst I thought it was a nice hotel, it has made me feel a little uncomfortable about holidaying in Turkey which is a shame as I usually go between 3-6 times a year, funds permitting. The attitude of a lot of the staff there leaves a bitter taste when we scrimp and save to have nice holidays.
If they would turn the music down and lose some of the attitude, the Karbel Sun would be a great hotel!!
Hubby and I are off to Olu for the first time in September for a fortnight. We're staying at the Karbel Sun Hotel - I can't find any reviews for it, only on it's sister hotels. Anyone stayed here, if so, what's it like, how far from the shops, restaurants and beach?
We'd also like to have a Turkish bath and do the island boat trip - any suggestions on who to book with would also be appreciated.
Any top restuarants/bars to try would be lovely too.
Thanks for your help,
Donna x
Laurence
The Karbel Hotel, has taken over an adjacent hotel called the White hotel, which now gives it more rooms, and another swimming pool which is known as the "quiet" pool, it also gives another pool bar area.
They are both literally at the top of the main street that leads down to the beach, its about 10 mins to walk straight down if you do not stop . . .we booked our trips with lagoon travel, and metrolya. Lagoon are down at the bottom of the street, just past bloodygorgeous agents, and metrolya are further up.
Both were good, although if you go to lagoon at the bottom, do go and speak to Sedat and he will most definitely look after you!
lots of excellent restaurants tho
am hoping to get back in August or october...already booked for next year, but miss it like crazy!
