Well i have onyl been to lloret de mar, but it was mainly couples when i went there. But there are lotsof bars and shops. So i think that it would be a great place for you both to go. In regards to the scenery this isnt too bad either, and the prices are very low. Theres a very good mexican on the main seafront with very friendly staff and very cheap, for three of us, we had a 3 course meal, about 4 pints each. 1 litres of tequila sunrise, and 5 buckets of sol(5 each bucket), this cam to a total of 60 euros equivalent to about £41, so not a lot between us all for that amount.

lloret by miles if you are young and lively and into bars and clubbing, staying out late, getting drunk, making a noise and not needing much sleep . plenty of shops and things to do.
calella has good shopping and plenty of bars, plus some clubs but is less noisy.
if i were younger(much younger) i would pick lloret, but i'll stick with calella or nowadays even malgrat.
