Would just like to recommend all the accomodation we stayed in, in Scotland for a group of seven of us from Canada for three weeks. In Edinburgh we stayed for a week in the Central Apartments at Tollcross, had a 4 bedroomed apartment. Never needed to use the car there because there are plenty of buses almost at the door, and nowhere is far to walk; to city centre and old town. Good centre for exploring the Lothians, Borders and Fife. All easy drives. Next stop Plockton in the western highlands for another week. We stayed in a lovely little house on the main street (20 Harbour Street), explored Skye, Loch Carron, Applecross and Sheildaig, Loch Ness, Inverewe Gardens....gorgeous scenery! Then on to the Isle of Mull. We stayed in the Sunart View Guest House by Tobermory for a couple of nights to see Tobermory (10 minutes walk) and Iona, a long , lovely and sometimes hair raising drive to Fionnport, and the ferry over to that beautiful and special little island. I can't say enough about this guest house run by Sarah and Mike Darling; lovely bedrooms with super views, fantastic Scottish breakfasts and the nicest owners you can imagine. And you don't have to be a group of seven to go there! Nearing the end of our holiday we stayed on campus at the University of Stirling. (Actually in Bridge of Allan) which has huge and beautiful grounds. We had an apartment in the Alexandra Court apartments; 5 single bedrooms and one double, a little lounge and kitchen. Very basic but adequate and perfect for our purposes. Beautiful drives to Pitlochry, Stirling itself, up on to Sherrifmuir, Loch lomond and the Trossachs, Perthshire and Perth itself briefly. Bridge of Allan is full of good restaurants and pubs. Last night spent at the Victorian House Hotel in Glasgow. (212 Renfrew Street) Lovely big rooms (a fourteen pound ride to Glasgow Airport.) Plentiful buffet breakfast; near Sauchiehall St and lots of pubs and restaurants. The hotel is on a 'hidden' quiet street within walking distance of all this.
Do email me if you're interested in any other information. It was a great holiday but could have done with a little less rain!! But who goes to Scotland for the weather?
