Hi Everybody

The above mentioned site is mine, I found this thread through looking at my site statistics, and am glad you like it!
The site is still very new, but I am adding to it daily, and hope to have it full of decent information soon.
In the meantime if anyone would like to know anything I will be happy to answer on this forum, as I still have not got round to posting a contact address on the site, but will do so very shortly.

Regards

Hello,

Thanks for your website it has been really helpful!
I am flying out to Costa Brava on the 20th June and staying in Calella.
I was just wondering if you know of the Olympic Hotel and what it was like.
Do you know roughly what the weather will be like then?
Also, do you own a bar or restaurant in Lloret De Mar as I will have to come over and visit you!

Thanks,

Jodie

Hi Jodie

I do not know the hotel Olympic personally- it is I believe on the far side of the main road, meaning you will have about 10 minutes to walk to the beach or main shopping area.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants in this area offering all sorts of entertainment.

The good thing about Callella is also the bad thing, the train! Bad because it runs along the seafront, and good because it makes getting around (to barcelona for example) very convenient.

Lloret de mar does not have a train station, one must get off at Blanes and then catch the connecting bus to Lloret.

However Calella is a very nice place, (although strictly speaking not on the Costa Brava, it is part of the Costa Dorada) with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, plus a very nice beach.

I did have a bars in Lloret in the past, the last one being a small place in the old part of town, 'Bar Barretina'. However I gave it up a few years ago, although a friend of mine continues to run it.

I now work renting rooms and houses- it is a little less stressful!
The weather around the end of June should be perfect, as it does not usually become unbearably hot until around the 10th of July.
Hope you have a great holiday-

Debbie

Hello Debbie,we are coming to lloret in 2 weeks time with 4 children aged from 5 to 14,could you suggest what we could do to keep them amused i.e. water parks etc?......Also we are big "market" people could you suggest any good markets in the area.....thanks in advance.Alan.

Hi Alan,

The main part of the beach in lloret is not ideal for very young children (i.e under 8s) unless they are strong swimmers, as it is an uneven sea bed, and in many parts one only has to walk a few steps out to be out of your depth. On rough days the undercurrents can also be strong, but if you go to the far end by the 'Dona Marinera', (you cannot miss it it, is a statue on the opposite end of the beach to the castle) it is great for kids as there are rocks and shallow waters.

Lloret's water park, 'WaterWorld' is said to be the biggest in Europe, and hopefully at the time of year when you are here the queues should not be too long- the last 2 weeks in july and first 2 weeks in August are very busy, but outside of that it should be fine- the website is http://www.waterworld.es (Don't know why, but the website seems to be having problems at the time of writing)

Other than Waterworld there is also Marineland situated 10 miles away in Palafols, this is easy to reach by bus. Marineland has dolphins, parrots, and combines a marine zoo with a water park - more info at:

http://www.aspro-ocio.es/marineland/cataluna/index.php?lang=en

There are also Go Karts, Gnomeland (suitable more for the under 10's) plenty of small parks containing trampolines, arcade games etc, 10 pin bowling, mini golf, pedalos on the beach - the ski school on the beach also has a banana boat, parasailing, and lots more. Although maybe not ideal for younger kids, the older ones will love it.
More info at: http://watersportcenter.info/

There is a large street market held in Lloret every Tuesday, in the street behind the casino.
The same market visits a different town everyday of the week, it is in Blanes on Monday, Tuesday in Lloret, Wednesday in Pineda, Thursday in Tossa and on Sunday it visits Tordera, which is about half an hour inland by bus.
The Tordera market is bigger than the others, and visited by many Spanish people. However I don't know if I would recommend it with four kids, as it gets VERY crowded and can be a problem even walking and looking at stalls, one tends to get carried along by the tide of people - might be advisable to stick to lloret. However if you did wish to go to Tordera there are plenty of buses laid on, tickets can be had in any travel agency- you will see signs advertising the excursion in the windows, etc, as indeed you will see plenty of adverts to buy tickets for Waterworld, Marineland etc.

In neighbouring Fanals (10 minutes walk) is the theme restaurant Disaster Cafe which the kids seem to love.
More info here: http://www.disastercafe.com

All in all, I think you will find there is no shortage of activities for you or the kids. (I am planning to add a page to my site this week describing activities for families, with pictures etc).
I have only mentioned things you have to pay for- but of course the beach, hotel pool, local walks (if it is not too hot) and public kids parks (there are quite a few) are free.

Hope you have a good holiday!
