Buses are just like here easy to use however depending on where you are staying and where you want to go it could involve several changes of bus. Another point is that you cannot always pay on the bus for your journey. There will be a small ticket office nearby where you can buy a ticket and remember there it is first come first served when boarding the bus.

hi im going to san antonio bay in sept would like to go to ibiza town for the day, is it easy to get bus back? i now that sounds stupid but dont want to get lost.

the buses to ibiza town from san antonio run every fifteen minutes from the centre of san antonio in front of the marina. You simply get a ticket from a lady in the booth at the bus stop who speaks okay english, its a single ticket so when you get into ibiza town you will have to get another ticket from the ticket office which is about a hundreds down from the central bus stop. again these run every fifteen minutes so you will be okay. You will have to walk round from the bay where you hotel is into the centre of san antonio to get the bus though

One thing to look out for, when the bus stops in ibiza town, if you want the beach walk in the direction of where the bus is facing and turn left at the end of the street, if you want the old town and castle, go the other direction and turn right at the end of the street. the centre of ibiza town where the bus stops is like any big city centre and a world away from san antonio.

Buses used to run regularly but beware as purse snatchers used to operate near the ticket kiosk at the bus station in San An. The one in Ibiza is indoors so there is not so much of a crush.

You can get a bus from the bay to the Town.

On those buses you just pay as you enter like in the uk.

I'm pretty sure i've always bought a return ticket at the booth in San Antonio for the joirney to ibiza town.

Buses are cheap on the island and reliable in respect to timetables. Most drivers speak basic English - at least enough to deal in numbers and money.

As has already been stated, not all buses are pay as you enter. In the larger resorts you have to buy your ticket at the kiosk which will always be at the terminus. Look or ask around for the kiosk while waiting for your bus. If you wait and try to board without a ticket you will be told to go to the kiosk. By the time you stand in the queue and buy your ticket, the bus will have left without you.

Ask at your local information office, if the resort has one, for a bus timetable and list of routes so you know in advance which changes you might need to make. It might not sound like it, but it really could not be easier.

The journey will cost you around 1.50Eur each way per person and its comfortable and air conditioned. During the week the buses are fairly regular as well.

In San An the main bus stop is easy to find as its just beside the marina however I would recommend buying a local map of Ibiza Town when you get there otherwise you may find your self getting lost, the bus stop is not by the coast there and you have to head into the town with its maze of streets. Remember Ibiza Town will be labeled with the Catalan spelling on the front of the bus which is Evissa.

Best way to explore Ibiza outside of a hire car though.

As somebody else has mentioned there are boat services which are obviously more expensive and less frequent, however its well worth it just for the experience.

I have no idea what the laws are in spain for how many people they can carry but every seat was taken and the aisle was crammed with as many as they could possibly fit.
This was night time though 9pm ish and so everyone had the same idea to go into town I think

Getting the last bus into Ibiza Town on an evening and returning later by taxi is a popular idea in many resorts. That's why it pays to turn up early and buy your ticket.

Sounds like you have been very unlucky.

I used to live in Ibiza and have travelled on the buses dozens of times. I have never had a problem getting on a bus, nor ever experienced a rugby scum getting on. They are usually well organised and in all the buses that I have been on, I have never been on one that is not air conditioned.

Although it does pay to remember that people leave work in Ibiza alot later because the siesta. I believe that leaving 8 to 9pm is not uncommon, therefore it is safe to expect more people to be using the buses at that time whereas 5 to 6pm, our usual rush hour it will probably be reasonably normal. I think alot of people forget that Ibiza is also a working island and places like Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia have alot of offices and shops which people need to travel home from.

It's one of those situations. If you know where it is, its easy to find, if not you can get completly lost! Just buy a map of the town, you can get them in most news agents over there or buy one before you go.

It will definetly impress to speak Spanish like above, however if you feel you are not been understood I have always found that they can speak reasonable english in the ticket booths, so you should be ok.

If the ticket booth is closed you buy your ticket on the bus. The bus drivers also have a basic knowledge of english as well most of the time, and they understand the english required to deal with english tourists!
Be aware, that although most of the time I have found them to be quite approachable, the attitude of some of the bus drivers is like what you will find in many city centres in the UK, they can be quite abrupt and rude. Be prepared for that, as I say its rarely a problem.
