Malta diving is fantastic; we're trying the caribbean coast of Mexico this year, would also recommend the Emerald Coast of Tunisia (far north).

Depends on how much you want to pay and what you want to see. The best diving in the egyptian red sea is in the south but you need to do it as a live aboard prices £800-£1100. Not many wrecks but great reefs and good chances of shark action. For wrecks then the Northern Red sea is Ok but the untimate for wrecks is truk lagoon in the pacific but you need to be advanced to do it and you are looking at min £2000. If you want cheaper then Teneriffe isn't to bad and its ok for families. Untimate life Maldives, again best to do as liveaboard. Virtually guaranteed Manta's on some dives lots of shark action White tips and Greys cost £1200. Plus lots of other interesting stuff and good chance of whale sharks as well . If with family then do Island but diving wount be as good. Other fantastic stuff Glapagos Islands. South Africa on Protus Banks good again for big stuff. People talk of Great Barrier reef but the normal tourist stuff is over rated you nee dto go to the Coral sea to get away from the cattle truck diving.Earlier posted said Malta its OK but not much life, this is true for most of the Med its generally over fished. Its realy all down to buget and what sort of diving you want to do and if you want something other to do other than dive.

Belize of course - and some of the caribbean islands depending on your interest (St Kitts is great for wrecks, Turks & Caicos, Caymans etc.)

I really fancy the Gulf of Cortez too.

just back from the Maldives - there are still many bargains to be had since the Tsunami. Stayed on Bandos last week which has an excellent housereef and is very close to major dive sites like Lankan (Manta point), Lohifushi, Okobe , the Maldives Victory (wreck) etc - and the island was less than half full!! It's officially the wet season just now but we had a total of five mins rain at most in 7 days!! Can't think that you'd have bad diving on any of the Maldivian islands though so take your pick !!!
