Hi Cliff an excellent Thai restaurant in Albufeira old town is the Royal Orchid it is situated near the tunnel to the beach, well recommended. In the newer part of Albufeira on the Estrada Santa Eulalia is the Chinese Royal which is also well recommended. Have a look on http://www.freemaps.net and it shows area maps of resorts with comments on restaurants etc. Regards Jayjan

Hi,

Best Piri Piri was in just about any restaurant in Guia, best seafood I have had was either the Louisianna in the fisherman part of the Old Town or the O'Leme in Pateo village(also best Cataplana although I lost a tooth one night there,.......long story).

Best Indian was the Taj Mahal at the top of the Strip. Ice cream/desserts probably La Bamba on the strip and steak has to be the Sizzling Stone just along from the strip.

No idea about Chinese, not my scene but quite a few restaurants around the strip and Old Town.

Enjoy :P

We always go to Fabio's for steak, this is at Cerro Branco, near to the town hall. Alfredo's for fish (and chicken Piri-piri)- on the Rua do Telecommunications, near the Old Town, or The Fishermans Club, just out. Best Chinese either the Royal on Santa Eulilia Road, near the strip, or Gold Elephant, also at Cerro Branco. We are told the Jade is also good, just off the strip at the crossroads. Best Indian either The Minhar, at the end of Music Street in the Old Town, or India Nights which is just off Rua October 5th in the Old Town. Clay Oven on the main dual carriageway from the strip to the Old Town - near the taxi rank - is also good.

For a little luxury at a reasonable price, a 7-8 euro taxi ride will take you to Museu do Salgados just past Gale crossroads on the way to Pera - terrific food and a great setting.

Theres a chinese just off The Square and up a short hill in the old town. Ive no idea of the street name, but you usually get chinese girls giving flyers out by the steps in the middle of the main bar run. Its worth a visit if you find it.

Many thanks Algarveaddick and Mixter - my mouth is watering overtime now!

The best Piri Piri has got to be in Guia its famous for it. Adick(Perry) my son tried the Jade just off the strip in July and said it was ok but nothing like the Chinese Royal on Santa Eulalia Road & also the Royal Orchid in old town he said was the best hes ever eaten in. As far as Indian restaurants have you tried the Bombay Palace just up from the taxi rank on the crossroads or the Taj Palace which is near Alisuper on the Santa Eulalia Road they are both owned by the same family and are really good, well we think so and eat there regular in fact we dont have to order they know what we want. Another good Indian is downstairs in the Vilanova shops I just forgot the name (Senior Moment) hahaha. Perry explain the way to Museu do Salgados for me please is it near the Salgados rock bar? Happy eating everyone. Regards Jayjan

Hi JJ,

Museu do Salgados is right next to the Rock Bar, it's the next building on the way to Pera.

The Minhar Indian is also owned by the same chap who owns The Taj and Bombay palace.

Agree on Guia for the the Piri-Piri, but Alfredo's is the best we have found actually in town - nice n spicy...

The one thing with the Royal Orchid is it is rather expensive, but a fabulous setting and top notch Thai food make it a night to remember if you are not on a tight budget :)

Hi,

Museu de Salgados is next door to the Salgados Rock Bar. You need to park across the road in the side street though as the carpark for the Rock Bar is for customers only!

Can highly recommend the Museu de Salgados , ate twice here in June and was 1st class both times and is very reasonably priced. Best book though as was really busy both times we went.

Cheers to Alagarveadick for the recommendation in the first instance.

Cheers Perry & Lummie, My hubby also informs me that the Taj Mahal at the top of the strip is also owned by the same family as the Bombay & Taj Palace. Good curries though Well recommended Indian restaurants. Cheers Jayjan

Well guys you really did yourselves proud, we went to recommended restaurants six out of seven nights and all were great. As I am up the duff I needed to be careful about what I was eating and never had a single problem!

O'Tunnel (up steps at entrance to tunnel) was the best by far - great food, very reasonable and excellent service.
Louisianna (on the Fishermans Beach) - good quality, lovely location and I managed to ignore the waiter in a strop!
Sizzling Stone (just off bottom of strip) - dearer than the other restaurants but very good. But as advised you need to book or be prepared for a long wait, it is very popular.
Living in Ireland I really miss a decent curry house and the Taj Mahal (at the top of the strip) was excellent. Good food and really reasonable prices.
Finally, we made the trip out to Museu de Salgados and it was really great. All the food was lovely in a beautiful restaurant and the service was excellent. We did not book as I did not have the number but we went early so as to get a table.

Thanks to you all for making my hol really great

Hi Purple and Gold,

Glad you had a great time and good eating.

Jealous hearing about those restaurants again as we wont make it back to the Algarve again for another year or 2 as a baby due in a few weeks. But next year.........who knows??? :D Hope you had the flambe pineapple with rum and raisin ice cream at the Museu de Salgados as it was absolutely fab(my Wife had it both visits).

Thanks everyone for your help in this.

We returned yesterday and went to several suggested restaurants.

We loved the atmosphere of Casa La Fonte, complete with huge lemon trees in the courtyard and the parrot in the corner. Food is great too.

Royal Orchid Thai restaurant which actually found to be very reasonable, given the sumptuous decor and speciality food, rahter than expensive, as mentioned on here. This was our favourite restaurant - we went here twice.

Louisiana Restaurant had great food too.
