my friends went to greece this year for the first time, with olypic holidays, they loved it, they are now looking at next year, someone has told them you have to be careful who you go with and this is worrying them a little, as they are looking at many resorts and brocheres, with different travel agents, as pensioners they are a bit wary as they only plucked up the courage to fly this year, any advice please

There are several smaller tour operators who specialise in some of the Greek islands. Laskarina http://www.laskarina.co.uk is supposed to be one of the best although not cheap. Tapestry http://www.tapestryholidays.com also are good although again not cheap.
You could also try the Travel Club of Upminster who do Crete and Corfu

Hope this is of some help.

My instinct is to stick with a company that specialises in Greece, rather than one of the "summer sun", companies that go everywhere.
It depends what their priorites are. If they are worried about customer service and the standard of accommodation, then you can't beat Tapestry, or one of the other similar companies that specialise in "uncommercial" Greece. If however, price is a major concern, then look at Kosmar. It's difficult to beat them on price and their properties are usually fine, as long as you read the brochure description carefully - they are pretty accurate and will tell you if a place is "simple", on a main road or up a big hill, etc. I've also heard a lot of good things about Direct Greece - My instinct is to stick with a company that specialises in Greece, rather than one of the "summer sun", companies that go everywhere.
The only trouble with Kosmar is that they do not have their own aircraft and flight times change, often 2 or 3 times before departure. We lost a day and a half of a Greek holiday last year with Kosmar due to them not having a plane to get us to Rhodes. On our return journey we had to land at Stansted before arriving at Cardiff.
Thanks for your replys which have been very helpful

Kosmar are ok if you want very reasonable prices and a huge selection of apartments to choose from. But as said previously they have a very bad reputation for changing airlines and flight times. Of late they have been using the notorious Air Scandic which suffers from the most awful of delays and 'technical problems'. We have had to cancel 2 holidays with Kosmar due to flight times and even airports being changed. Would not travel with them again.
To be fair to Kosmar, I have travelled with them over a dozen times over the last few years and only once had a long flight delay, which was unfortunately on my last holiday with them this year, when we were delayed a total of 12 hours coming home. I have never had bad accommodation and the reps have been fine. Though I was annoyed when I came back last time, on balance, I would use them again, for the price and choice they give. The standard of accomodation and service given by companies like Tapestry is superior - but then you pay a lot more for the privilege.
try cosmos. i went to zante with them and had no problems at all. they have brochures which specialisie in the greek islands
We're not great "package holiday" goers but we've used Olympic in the past and they were fine.
Kosmar are notorius for flight changes but they are very cheap. Laskarina have a good reputation as do some of the previously mentioned operators. I would also add Sunvil. Not sure about Direct Greece, they are owned by My Travel/Airtours who have a poor reputation
We have used our local Lunn Poly (now Thomson) Travel Agent for many years and been very satisfied every time. Good luck, rosiepeardrop.
We have been travelling with Kosmar for many years now without complaint. However we always travel from Manchester although we live closer to Birmingham because Kosmar seem to have difficulty filling the flights from Birmingham and so they try to combine them with Bristol which often causes problems. We shall continue to book with Kosmar because even if we were prepared to pay the higher prices charged by the other companies none of them have the range of locations offered by Kosmar. If however you know of a company offering a similar range to Kosmar I should like to hear about it and in particular I am looking for another company other than Kosmar and Tapestry that go to Pelion Region.
Sunvil have properties in the Pelion. I mentioned this company in an earlier post and have used them several times.
Yes but there are no prices published on the website for Sunvil which seems to suggest that their prices are similar to Tapestry which I have seen described in various reviews as a rip off.
There are prices on the Sunvil site and they are not as expensive as Tapestry. Like most things in life you tend to get what you pay for.
