I think you'd be very unwise to travel without holiday insurance, it covers many things the E111 doesn't.

I'd travel with both.

If you need to be flown home in an emergency you will need travel insurance unless you fancy footing the bill yourself for repatriation.

Also travel insurance covers you for many other things other than medical.

Having sustained an accident last year on holiday which meant I had to return to the UK early - we were glad we had travel insurance even if they were not the most helpful company!

Never, never travel without insurance.
