Hello Everyone....

Arrived back from Gouves Crete last night, and felt that I had to write up my feedback. We stayed at the Astir Beach Hotel in Gouves for seven nights on an all inclusive basis, and I can honestly say that I thought the standard of the hotel was very good, and excellent value for money!!
Our flights were changed a couple of days before we left from Viking to Monarch, and had an excellent flight from Manchester.

Admittedly, the rooms at the Astir Beach were basic, but kept very clean e.g. sheets and towels changed every day, and the hotel itself was also very clean with good standards. We had a room in the outbuildings, not in the main hotel, and they were nicely situated.

Location wise, outside of the hotel, there were only a few bars and restaurants, but this suited us. We did go into Gouves Town on a couple of nights, which was about a 10-15 minute walk, and there were more bars, restaurants and shops in the town.

The beach was very nice and clean, and located just across the road from the hotel, which was good. You have to pay for the sunbeds and paraols on the beach 6 Euros for the day.

The weather was excellent, and there was a lovely breeze throughout the day due to the close location of the beach.

The food was of a very good standard also. Buffet style for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, with a good variety of food every day - not just chips served with everything!! Also ice-cream available mid morning and mid afternoon.

We also checked out the Marina Hotel, which was just next door to the Astir Beach, which appeared to be a much bigger hotel, with better entertainment in the evening.

The entertainment in the daytime at the Astir Beach, was good, but very repetitive, as the same activities took place, every day, even in the Kids Club, which obviously after a couple of days became very boring for the children and adults alike.

The evening entertainment was not very good. The animation team were really nice, and were obviously trying very hard, but to be honest for the "Shows" that they put on at night, they would have been better off, just having some music and a disco, which would have gone down better with most of the guests, having spoken to a number of people about this.

Also the nature of some of the shows, I felt, were not appropriate for young children.

All in all though I can honestly say I was very pleasantly surprised with the Astir Beach Hotel, and would return to Crete again with Hellenic Voyages.

Regards
Sheila  :o :) :D

Just got back from Crete, staying at Europa Beach having originally been booked at the Astir Beach. The Europa Beach suited us just fine - it is a nice hotel of a reasonably high standard, clean rooms, good food, - we really could find nothing at all to complain about, and our four and eight year old loved it, however some people were disappointed with the lack of 'action' in the area as the hotel is about 20 mins walk from the nearest village. However, you can order taxis into the villages if you feel that the hotel entertainment is not enough for you.

We really had a lovely holiday, and cannot fault Hellenic. Our tickets arrived in plenty of time, and although our hotel was changed at the last minute, location was not really a factor for us, and we were assured that the hotel was of a higher standard than the Astir Beach and we were very happy with it.

I feel we got value for money and will definitely travel with them again.

Please note that as this is the Tour Operators forum, reviews for individual hotels are likely to be overlooked in here. You can access the Hotel Reviews section via the link in the navigation bar at the top of the page. If your hotel is not already listed, please leave a note of the name, resort and tour operator in our Help & Assistance forum, and a review page will be set up for you.

Their new brochure is out and the holidays are selling fast.
Numbers are 0870 7524499 and 01924 788701 to add to the others.
I'm booked for August, so I don't care who gets in now.

I also have booked with them for Crete in May and Cyprus in October. Having checked the prices against big name TOs for the same holidays I reckon I have saved 40% - Can confirm what Parky45 says as I was speaking to them this morning about something and they told me they are selling fast. Not hype but repeat customers as well as new.

Fwh, I think we should be getting commission from Manos now. The number of recommendations we have given should stand us in good stead.

Booked for Rhodes in May now, as well.

Has anyone had trouble with the company - I booked a holiday for August back in March and have received nothing from the company as yet. I have managed to trackdown a number for them (as booked via teletext holidays) and have called them 4 times - everythime they say I am top of the pile to get documents sent out. I had to pay £300 deposit and stilll have not received confrimation of that, let alone all my holiday details - holiday is 9 weeks away and I am getting very panicky.

There was a problem in late March/April - New printers were not upto job and paperwork was delayed. You could always ring Manos ( The Owner ) on 01924 788700.

Thanks for that - this is the first time I have booked a holiday over the internet and had not heard of Hellenic before - was getting the usual jitters of first time companies - I did scroll up and got the emal address so I ahve now chased that way - Manos was the booker of ur holiday and also the contact I have used in chasing paperwork....never mind I am sure it will be OK.

Finally after booking at the end of Feb I finally got my cofnirmation yesterdday with suprise suprise balance due date: YESTERDAY - called up to pay balance and to check holiday as originally booked with MANOS 11 nights travelling out 16/8 returning 27/8 everything was right with flights but accommodation said 10 nights so that means check out on 26th and flight not until 0630 on 27th - manos said this was wrong and I booked for 11 nights (I have 3 yr old daughter and remember when booking Manos said this way my daughter can sleep until coach transfer at approx 3am) - which I thought was wonderful. Just had a phone message to say this is wrong we are only booked for 10 nights - however my husband has checked all my paperwork/written stuff at home and everywhere on my paper it says 11 nights - so I am about to call back and have it out with them......watch this space. : :x

After arguing with Manos for 5 minutes and him talking to me like a child and as if I know nothing (although I worked in Business travel for 10 years) it finally transpires that the holiday was for 10 nights even though it said 11 nights on Teletext - I had only paid for 10 nights and he accused me of lying about the spleeping daughter transfer arrangemnets - I have now to pay another £35 to make my holiday right - So the original holiday we saw for 10 nights with OTBeach was now nearly £100 cheaper - never mind - Manos told me that he had explained all this to me at the start - So why had i not just paid the extra then I said - he knew I wanted 11 nights, the flight is on the 12th day - he should have just added the extra on at the start instead of causing all this hassle. I have never know anything like it. Just cannot wait to go now. although knowing luck my tickets wont turn up or will be wrong or may be some more hidden charges !!!!!!!! fingers crossed.

If it said 11 nights on Teletext, get onto Teletext. It's all in their info, terms and conditions and could lead to a refund. They will have records of what ads were on and when.

Manos said he would send me an updated invoice - I received this the morning, and had to laugh - still said 10 nts at the top of the invoice, noticed that the price had changed, and even though there is a box at the bottom for information on extra nights etc, all he has written at the very bottom of the page is "extra paid" no details, nothing. So far, we are not too impressed with Hellenic and they are not filling me with too much confidence, hope the holiday itself is better.

I spoke to Manos last week and he told me that "they" had bought a hotel on Rhodes and were renovating it to a 4*+ hotel. By "they" I assume he meant Hellenic. I asked where it was and he said it was the Iallisos Hotel. (spl)

Just for info, but it should be about the same price as the Oceanis.
