I've heard that there is some form of tax (18%) is going to be applied to properties bought in Greece from 2006 . Does anyone know anything about this. Thanks in advance.

Council taxes and rates are included on water and electricity bills. If you are buying a property or selling then the seller has to pay a tax at the town hall called TAP which is submitted to the public notary before a sale of liveable property is completed.

The new laws on property purchase/sale in Greece will go in to effect from 2006. 19% VAT will go on to any new building permits issued. Tax evaluation prices for property will be increased (% still not known but could be anything between 15% up) and then there are supposedly going to be some new laws on selling property but nothing has been printed that gives us a clear picture.
