oro blanco is a great base for clubbers

good hotels to try for families and non clubbers:

la sisetsa

las dallias

sol tenerife

bitacora

these are all further away from veronicas but i doubt you want to go that area again

pammie i agree i wouldnt take kids to PDLA during june - october either. i think costa adeje or los cristanos is much better for families

I agree with Queenie.

During the HIGH SEASON the Oro Blanco is not suitable for families.

Tour Operators know that and should advise families of this fact, and NOT send them there!

No of course I would not want to see this type of behaviour and have my children witness people falling off balconies, and all the other issues already raised.

BUT I have to defend this complex, there are people probably already booked to go here out of the high season and are totally freaking out now.

The Oro Blanco is NOT a dump. My family actually stayed in it, and didnt just
"go to have a look"
I can safely say that while we were there out of season the complex was kept spotlessly clean, the maids were cheerful and friendly, we had a problem which when reported was sorted out straight away. The reception staff were very helpful and cheerful.

We have stayed certainly in much more up market complexes in our time, but this was cheap and cheerful, and just what we wanted for a week in the winter.

I think even though tewalker had a horrible time, it is the fact that she was put with clubbers while having a family holiday, and the behaviour of the said clubbers - the complex itself, while not being perfect, was not the main issue. This is borne out by her quote below

ts a bloody good hotel and nice and well looked after no problems with that

Please, if you are already booked here, (outside of the busy season of course) PLEASE DONT PANIC. You will find a basic complex, kept clean, friendly staff, and it is very central. There were no problems like this in October and February when we stayed, and I would presume the other quiet months are the same.

Surely its important, while obviously letting people know how bad a complex can be, to inform them that this is not all year round.

How can you tell if a hotel "is a dump" just by visiting the outside? Besides, it would be "a dump" if there was building work going on!!!

What do people expect if they stay at one of the cheapest hotels in PDLA, in high season, which is the clubbing capital of the canaries? Young people and clubbers perhaps? The TO should not send families there in high season.
I'm not condoning loutish behaviour, I think it's pathetic, but that's the way some people behave on holiday. Have you ever been out on a night out in Leeds recently?

That she is a he  I have seen things that I would not wish on anyone. I was also young once and I have done a few things in my time. I have been on 18/30's back in the 80's but showed a bit of respect for families and the kids.

These days no one as respect at all. Like I said the OB is a nice hotel and well looked after, the blame goes with the TO mis-leading families about it.

Have a look at the airtours book, and tell me like wise.

 Sorry to call you a she, its difficult when you only have a name which could apply to either sex!

We absolutely agree with you, it must have been horrendous having to put up with that behaviour, and I would avoid a company in the future who put profits before customer service.

But its not like that in the quiet season, I would not like people who have booked for November to be panicking and trying to change their holidays

Take care, and hope your next holiday is a lot more pleasant!

we went to this place 2 yrs ago it's a dump if anyone thinks that you get what you pay for and it's a place for clubbers then maybe they should ban normal people from going to the oro blanco. nobody normal would want to stay in a place where one of the idiots has a shot in the pool for a larf ? as thats what we got on our visit but "hey" thats clubbers for you. also screaming breaking glass and setting off fire extinguishers during the night .great people clubbers sorry i think i misspelt shot .

What time of the year were you there Wulmac?

we were there january 2003 the apartments were pretty quiet during the day and through the evening. there was probably only about 20 or so younger [clubber types ] we really didn't see a lot of them during the day but certainly heard them when they got back in about 5 in the morning .a great time to start a party and cause all sorts of noise.

next time put your had abit deeper in your pocket and go somewhere better  clubbers are only having fun. im sure they hated the sight of your annoying kids ( if you have any) as much as you hated them.

jeeezzzz talk about sterotyping people

could not agree more greenshoes, i have read other forums on this board, and people go on about how the young have ruined Zante,

what they mean is Laganas is the new in place for the 'kids'.

So would i send my mum to Zante you sure bet i would, but would i send her to Laganas, not on your nellie.
There are hundreds of greek resorts, yet the kids choose
Laganas
Kavos
Malia
Kardanema
Falaraiki

give these kids some slack they need somewhere to go and for them being in 1 place with people their own age is great. I remember when i was 21.

But i have to agree they now do go overboard, but i do blame the bar owners, in these places as they pour cheap drinks down their throats.

Now this does not go for las americas, we all know the kids budjet accommodation, as we do our research first.

thank you.

my point without meaning to offend anyone is we all pay well earned money for our summer holiday and trust me as a 19 year old i cant think of anything worse than being in a hotel with families and having to 'behave' for the children. they arent my children and if i want to go out have a few to many vodkas, throw up over the balcony and party till 6am then so be it. I blame the TO's but i also blame those who dont research their hotel. im sorry but going to las americas and staying in budget accomodation you are just asking for noise etc. yes when i stay in up market hotels with a mixture of people i behave but when i go cheap and cheerful i just party.

oro blanco is a stones throw away from veronicas it baffles me why people going there dont even think this hotel wont be over run by clubbers.

if you cant beat them, join them! :glynis

i totally agree with you as well greenshoes as i landed in the oro blanco through no fault of my own theres no way i would have booked into that dump if i had booked the holiday . but dont think that being 19 justifies having too many vodkas and chucking up over the balcony its not good for your fellow holiday makers .remember that a lot of families dont go to budget accomodation because they want to they go because thats what they can afford, also not everyone knows about holiday truths etc so can't research their holiday many have to trust the travel agent. as for stereotyping clubbers i think your last post managed that without anyone else contributing. as for letting my kids mix with your clubber types i would not let my dogs mix with them.

I think there's a bit too much generalising going on now! The initial point (correct me if I'm wrong) was that the tour operator was, essentially, selling the holiday under something amounting to false pretences. It is all well and good to blame the individual holidaymaker for booking into the "wrong" accommodation but please remember that not everyone is a regular traveller. They may not know the reputations of different resorts. They are reliant on the travel agent giving them accurate and truthful information.

When all is said & done the problem in my opinion just lies in common courtesy (or lack of). And this applies to both young & old!!

wulmac i was making a point and you seem to have taken it the wrong way. my point was IF young people want to do it then so be it its not their problem you have children and want to go to bed early. also im sorry but you must live in a bubble if you do not know PDLA is the clubbing capital of the canaries.

anyway....... oro blanco is a great place to stay. it is for fun loving people, not those who want to go to bed at 10pm every night

Well we'll see greenshoes at 19 you have not seen a lot then have you.
Time will tell when you are married and have kids of your own, and you end up in some hotel that the TO sold you with clubbers runing around like mad in front of children throwing up and peeing in the pool. Boyfriends kicking the hell out of girlfriends is not a nice thing to seen.

Also greenshoes when was the last time you were at the Oro Blanco?

I really dont know why we are all arguing about this.

Tewalker had a horrible holiday at the Oro Blanco.
The Tour Operator shouldnt have sold it to him as a family holiday in the high season.

Queenie and myself have stayed there twice out of season and had a brilliant time.

Wulmac was there out of season and had a horrible time

greenshoes was there to do "clubbing" which she got and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I personally stand by the fact that I was there twice and saw none of this behaviour. It doesnt mean I dont believe you that it went on. I will go there in the future with my son again, as I personally liked the complex.

Read ANY selection of posts on a complex and you will get the bad along with the good. And remember that people are always more inclined to complain if they had a bad time rather than compliment if they had a good time.

Lets not get into a slanging match with each other, which is the way its going at present :D

sorry if i gave the wrong impression about having had a bad time at the oro blanco we actually had a good holiday and enjoyed ourself regardless of the noise and loutish behaviour. we didn't have children with us either but we went out had a good time probably in amongst a lot of the so called clubbers but when we came back to the hotel we did not continue the party make noise or vandalise the hotel . my point is really that if you go clubbing till 6.00 am then surely thats enough fun for anyone i am in my mid forties but regardless of my age or family situation i dont want to experience crazy behaviour in the middle of the night. i would like to think that PDLA is not only for the school leavers. greenshoes your attitude that you payed your money and will do what you want is pretty selfish. acting reasonable does not mean dont enjoy yourself because you spent a couple of hundred pounds doesnt mean you can ruin everybodies holiday
