Myself and my family adore visiting the beautiful beach at Formentor whenever we are in Majorca. We normally catch a boat from Alcudia, but you are only allowed to stay there for about an hour as the boat returns back to Alcudia. We find that this isn't enough time to enjoy this gorgeous place. Does anybody know of a way to spend the day up here without having to be rushed. If we went from Puerto Pollensa by boat. are there more boats retuning later in the day?
Many thanks for your help.
there is a regular bus service from port pollence or hire a car....or take a taxi....cant be too dear....bob
I am also fairly sure there is a bus from Alcudia in the morning that takes you to Formentor.
Boat tickets from PP can be purchased at the small hut where the south beach (the one that runs towards Alcudia) meets the entrance to the marina. Get off the Alcudia bus at the main roundabout in PP and walk back a few hundred yards past the car park. Tickets can be one-way or return, your choice.
If you decide to return by bus, the bus-stop at Formentor is a few hundred yards on the right, back from the gated entrance to the Hotel Formentor, in the carpark just by the junction of the PP road and the one that takes you out to the lighthouse on Cap De Formentor.
So you have a range of options.
We were at the Formentor beach in May this year and it has been extensively cleaned up of the rubble from past storms. The place is looking really nice and the swimming is excellent. Go early as the small beach is usually very busy from mid-day onwards and take food/drink as the restaurant there is expensive.
Thank you both for the information. Very much appreciated.
Just came back yesterday. The beach at Formentor has been packed all week, very little room. 4 euros to park but get it back if you spend 10 in the cafe which was very busy. Brother on law went snorkelling off the beach... dont go in water not off this beach .....went last April and it was indeed beautiful..not now though

This kind of enigmatic message does nobody any good....what do you mean ???
sorry about the delay. What do I mean? For those who cant work it out...well firstly.. we went in April. The place was very quiet as expected. You could park in the beach front car park and the place was very nice. We went again in July only to be chunnelled into the overflow car park by over bearing security guards and charged 4 Euros to park. We went to the beach, it was so packed we struggled to find a spot of sand. Brother in law and kids went snorkelling and reported tampons etc on sea bed and murky water. To get your parking money back you had to spend 10 Euro in the restaurant/cafe.....however the place was packed and the queue enormous.......we left and went to Cala Sant Vincent 15 mins away...room on beach, free parking and clear sea......
July seems like a bad time to go...we always go in May or September...the best months for climate and lack of crowds.
Just back, spent a day at Playa Formentor. Lovely as always, highly recommended. Go early to avoid the crowds and ensure a place on the beach. First boat from Puerto Pollensa is at 10.00am.
You can also wander further along in front of the hotel gardens.
If you take a picnic you can get your 4 euros (from Car Park) back on drinks in the lovely bar behind the Sun beds - drinks there are not cheap about 3,50 eur for a coke or beer but you do get nibbles. The first 2 cafes are pretty grotty & expensive. This may be expensive but grotty it is not. You can also use the loos in the restaurant or even eat in the restaurant which is supposed to be a fabulous buffet.
