Jus returned from PDC last week and thought other users may be interested in what I have to say. Have been to the Island now 9 times, the last visit being in January this year, so didnt expect any changes. However I did notice in Jan. that they were carrying out work near to the Casino and was pleasantly surprised on this holiday to find Restaurant\Cafe La Ola. If you are about to visit PDC then this is a must place to visit for meal or just drinks. When my and my husband first went we thought we felt a little bit like fish out of water and also presumed drinks and meals would be expensive but they are very reasonable taking into account the wonderful surroundings. It is a new establishment run by the Llanis group and it is very well worth a visit, even just for a coffee during the day.
It was a last minute holiday as the apts. we stay in were fully booked but emailed me to say they had had a cancellation. I was then frantically trying to get flights but couldnt. Eventually through http://www.airborn.co.uk I managed to obtain flights from Manchester. Was very sceptical though because all other companies were fully booked. However arrived at Manchester Airport, tickets waiting for us which was a big relief but then I was slightly concerned because I established we were flying with Air Atlanta and from reading other sites I was aware that this airline is tied with Excel. Having previously read many bad reports about Excel I was still worried. However there was absolutely no need, the aircraft was a Jumbo and we were seated unexpectedly upstairs, departed on time and service was absolutely fine. No problems whatsoever with baggage at Arrecife and exactly the same on return. Each flilght you take is only ever as good as the last one but I would now not unduly worry about any flights with Excel\Air Atlanta.
One other thing I would mention. Because we have explored the Island so many times we were not planning on doing anything on this trip but the new thing to us was the express waterbus to Puerto Calero so we tried this out. Very efficient but in my opinion rather expensive, something like 35 Euros. If, like us, you have been to P. Calero before you will know that there is not a lot there to fill in your time so you need to be careful with return. The leaflets kicking about resort tell you the water bus is every hour but it wasnt. We actually only stayed in P. Calero for 40 mins in order to get the next water bus back because otherwise we would have had 3 hours which we would have found difficult to fill in. Although a very beautiful marina still little to do. We did in fact, 3 years ago, walk there from PDC - not a good idea - it looks far nearer than it is. At that time there was no public transport or taxis and so we had little choice but to return to PDC on foot.
Well, just thought I would share my most recent holiday experience with you all in case there is anything in here that you may find useful.
I must concur with your comments about La Ola, what a very pleasant surprise it was, and not expensive at all considering the location etc.
For those who haven’t yet been, they have a large open verandah area stretching out onto the rocks by the sea and there’s a swimming pool on the verandah with very plush comfy sunbeds. So long as you’re eating or drinking, it appears the facilities are available to the punters.
