Sorry to read your review and that you were disappointed. We're off tomorrow for 3 nights ...its our 4th visit and we haven't had a bad stay yet. We took my elderly parents in April as a surprise and the staff really looked after us / them. Must admit the bar prices are 'grim' but judging by other 4 star prices at the Paramount and DeVere its about the same for all..... you need a stiff Brandy to cope ........ we've already stocked up with a bottle of bubbly to take with us! I've read a number of reviews re the Imperial and it seems to me that you either love it or hate it .......
We fit into the 'love it' category - we love the hotel, the staff, the food and the No 10 bar oozes atmosphere - then again we like old hotels (Victorian style) and can see that it may seem odd if compared to some of the more modern hotels we've stayed in. We've booked premium rooms in the past (via their Leisure Breaks Club so it's not as expensive) so can only comment on the sea facing rooms.
The hotel was featured on the BBC holiday watchdog programme recently and was the only hotel in the area to pass their cleanliness test ........ something of a relief!
I suppose we have a soft spot for the hotel - try e-mailing your comments if you're not happy - I think its under paramount hotels - would be interested to see what they say.
The Imperial here we come!
Us Prestos
thanks for the reply. We have stayed before at the Imperial about 10 years ago and loved it then. This time I had no complaints over cleanliness, it was spotless,(apart from the chip smell in our room) it is a value for money thing really and at £169.00 per night some of those "extra" little bits are missing. No mini bar, no glasses in the room, a view over the kitchen roof and a big gripe was the situation at Breakfast. I can compare it with a stay at the Midland in Manchester. For a lot less money, you get genuine 4/5 star accomodation and at breakfast a wide range, kippers, eggs done any way you wish porridge etc etc etc as well as the usual full english. The Imperial choice was tinned fruit, a couple of cereals and egg, bacon, sausage and beans with some awfull black pudding and strange tasting hash browns.
I do hope you enjoy your stay and that I haven't put you off. I just feel with the Blackpool hotel situation that it's milk em time whilst the illuminations are on and then special deal them from November onwards.
Sorry to hear of your problem. A couple of friends booked the Imperial a few weeks ago on a late deal with Paramount group. They specified a sea view room but were allocated a room at the back over the kitchens which they described as awful.
They went to reception, complained bitterly and were told there were no sea view rooms available. They refused to be fobbed off and asked for a full refund as they were not satisfied and hey presto they were found a seaview room on the second floor due to a "late cancellation". They had a brilliant weekend which would have been spolied if they had stuck withbthe room offered.
I know we don't like complaining because it can be stressful and a bit of hassle but sometimes if you think you have been short changed its best to try and rectify the situation if you can.
You can see why people go abroad, i have just booked 4 nights in a Sol 4 star hotel in Spain over christmas for £217 total & thats for a triple & a single room half board!. I was thinking about going to Blackpool, but the prices for a comparable hotel were nearer £400 & that was only B&B.
Have just got back from the Imperial.
Must admit, the room we had was fabulous - it was a premium room with a bay window overlooknig the sea so it should have been! Having said that, we went in April and know that this room has been completely refurbished - the duvet and pillows even smelled new. All furnishings, furniture etc was brand new and it made a big difference to the feel of the room.
The hotel was full - the meals excellent - though service one night was very slow (we almost dialled a pizza!) but the staff were more than apologetic and the supervisor in the restaurant saved us a table with a seaview each night so we were more than happy!
Like you've said about complaining, we had booked a premium room and should get extra toiletries, an up graded refreshments tray, etc etc - when we got there we hadn't got it, just the normal package, but once hunny had contacted receptin it all appeared. It would have been easy to let it drop, but when you've paid for it ........
This is now our 4th stay - and to the Imperial's credit it wont be our last
