I tend to agree about the locked suitcases! I usually tie my zips together with a piece of string, mainly to stop them undoing themselves! I then use the shrinkwrap as it is much too difficult to take off IMO, in the amount of time available to wouldbe thieves!!!! I, also, wonder why people put so many valuables inside the suitcases.

I know this is a bit offtopic, but I am constantly amazed at how, after a bag has been stolen from say, a car, or apartment, the clients will tell me that grandmas precious ring was in there, only worth 500 quid(!), but of great sentimental value, etc etc. Please folks, when you go on holiday leave the good stuff behind. My mother took ALL her jewellry away to south africa and left it in a hotel room!!!!!!!!!

ooh sorry Briar, I wasn't meaning anything by my remark above, though having read back it looks like I was commenting on your friend Just as a tour rep here, I was reminded of the amounts of times thefts are reported to me, they always seem to have some item of value taken. It never seems to be just tickets, passport, cash and a camera, or whatever!!! Hope I didn't offend

have just returned from holiday in Mauritius, when we arrived at our hotel we had the unpleasant suprise that our suitcases had been broken into.
Locks removed items stolen and locks replaced. Flew with Air France and Air Mauritius.
Would like to know if anybody else has had this happen to them.

It is something that everyone should be aware of when packing. Valuables should not be put in hold luggage. Insurance companies will not pay out.
