Hi folks
It has been about 9 years since I was last in Cyprus. Then you could not cross over to the northern Turkish side. Can you do that now say for a day trip? Also would you have to change to Turkish lire?I have put a new hard drive in my computer and have had to re register. So been out of touch for a few days.Is Nicosea (if thats how you spell it) still got the border there or has it opened up?
The good news, hopefully, is that Ledra street looks like it will finally be re-opened after 50 odd years.
Things have reached a bit of a halt at the moment as the Turkish Cypriots wanted to build a footbridge which didn't find favour on the Greek side. It looks like work has stopped on that now although there's real hope to get the crossing open by Christmas. People in Nicosia want it and there's even a 'virtual' Ledra Street website now which shows the street as one, with no barriers. Lets hope that the politicians don't once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!
I've always said I look forward to the day when I can have an Effes lager in Pafos and a Keo in Kyrenia. Maybe one day.....
You don't have to change into TL, but you will get a better rate at the many kiosks changing money than you will in the shops/bars etc.
There was a thread on this a couple of months(?) ago

Thanks mate most inforative As your name sujests CHEERS
it's now gone very quiet and I haven't heard of any more developments.
Does anyone have some up to date news?
I'd just like, one day, to carry on walking, instead of having to stop and peer over the wire at 'no-mans land'. And maybe pop over and have a cold Efes lager!
Dave
You shouldn't have to re-register because you have a new hard drive.
