Ghodwa Tajjba Malta people, it's very quiet on here at the moment has nobody got any stories to tell or information to pass at present ?, it might be winter in the uk, but in Malta and Ghawdex the holiday season continues, Mrs Sliema2 & I are back over in early 2006 for our 15th visit to the magic islands, we have planned loads of things to do again, but lets pretend that we have never been before, so what 15 things would you all reccomend for first time visitors to Malta to do ?.

this is only a small list of things too do
alan
Grazzi hafna Alan, thats a pretty impressive list, any one visiting Malta for the first time and doing those things would be mighty impressed, the ones I particularly endorse are numbers 1, 2, etc etc in fact all of them, anyone else out there like to contribute ?.
1 Fort st Angelo at the tip of Vittoriosa to visit the grave of the Knights who died in the Great siege of Malta(1565) is it open yet?
2 St Joseph's Chapel again in Vittorosa to see its treasurers one being the hat and sword of Grand Master, De La Valette.
3 Spend a week down the Oubliette in Fort St Angelo.
4 Spend a night in and around Fort Manoel, to see if there is realy a ghost said to be Grand Master Manoel De Vilhena.
5 Have a look round the church in Valletta (Our Lady of Victory) it always seems shut when I am there.
6 Have the Prime Minister give me a personal tour of the Auberge de Castile et Leon in Valletta.
7 Be let in to the Crypt in St Jonh's Co-Cathedrel to see the tombs of the Grand Masters.
8 Have a Duel with Sliema2 in full Armour of the Knights on Strait Street.
9 Walk round Bugibba and not be set on by those time share people.
10 Have a pint with Gozo Mark.
This is just a bit of fun as you know some of them will never happen I am thinking more number 9, so roll on the summer and a nice walk along the prom at Sliema with a hot dog and a game on that tombola thing.
By the way you may like to know I have just had my tickets for our new years holiday to Tenerife, not the same as Malta but at this time of year a bit hotter.
Dave
Hi Dave, I agree to your offer to duel in Malta , just as long as you promise not to swing your cruciform anywhere near me codpiece , the duel could take place in The Crowne Plaza Hotel, which would make it the "Duel in The Crowne" .
oops, me thinks that Sliema is loosing it !!!
Hi Charliegirl, some might argue that Sliema2 never "had it" to loose in the first place .
we have been going to Malta for about 20 years usually twice a year and there are still places that we are finding
here are my 15 in no particular order
1 do a boat trip to St Pauls Island and comino
2 Mdina (with no cruise ships!)
3 Upper Barracca Gardens
4 Lunch at Xlendi
5 Do a boat trip at the inland sea just before sunset
6 Go out and meet the locals and join in their conversations
7 The underground shelters at Mgarr
8 Hire a car and lose the map!!
OOps will have to resume later, work is calling!
Here are a few more things I would like to see next time in Malta.
11 Have the Bishop of Malta walk me round St John's Co-Cathedral and tell the names of all the Knights who are in the floor tombs, 400 in all.
12 Sing a duet with charliegirl007 on the stage of the Manoel Theatre, the song would go something like (Can anybody get me out of this key hole)
13 Climb to the top of Fungus Rock and find a new plant that has medical properties and save the world !
14 Stand on the roof of the Verdala Castle to see the view of Malta from here.
15 See an end to the Kacca.
Dave
I know its only 3 and half days so whats the best itinary so as not to waste a minute? We are staying at the Mediteranea at St Pauls. Who else from here is around at that time?
hi there charlie girl i will be in malta during the christmas new year period. by the way have you seen the underground shelters in melieha, there's a lovely old chap that takes you around he's a real character. he gives a great entertaining tour. it's almost under the church'
Hi Charliegirl, hope you have a fab time in Malta this xmas, Alan we have been to the shelters in Mgarr and Birgu but not Mellieha please tell us more it sounds interesting.
bonswa sliema2 the shelters are almost under the entrance to mellieha church if you walk from triq gorg borg olivier near the grotto of our lady the entrance is right in front of you. it's a huge complex of tunnels most of which are not open to the public but that still leaves a lot to explore complete with furniture and dummy's and sounds of aircraft ect.the guide tells of his memories during the war well worth the ml1 to enter'
one more must do before i die is windsurfing on chadwick lakes
Hi Alan, thanks for that mate I think we will deffinitely do this sometime in 2006.
We are also over there from 28th to the 3rd. Roll on Christmas.
If you are to visit the bomb shelters then enquire before you go as to their opening hours.
thanks for that. What would other people do in 3 and half days in Malta/Gozo?? Perhaps not enough time for the full 15 must do's.
Hi charliegirl, if it was us over there for a short break then we would think of maybe or most favourite 3 or 4 things that we enjoy doing in Malta and do them.
