i heard it can be very expensive but may be best to pm the goandentist or someone living there
Hi liz c, Welcome - if you look back at previous threads on this forum you should find one that was an answer regarding the same question that I asked a short time ago.
Thanks Bam
we are moving out to goa in july if all goes according to plan. we are looking for a 12 month rent in benaulim probably- we have an ebay shop and this is what is going to keep us afloat, but this means we need a FAST internet connection as ebay otherwise just stops! i think the best bet is to take our laptop out and try to set up with broadband out there, my fiance thinks this is impossible and we should just use the (in my experience depressingly slow) internet shops.
what does everyone else think? is it feasible to set up broadband for little cost- do we need a phone line first (im a bit retarded on the technology front! ), how much would it cost, which company etc etc? or are there now any good broadband internet shops in south goa.
i read a thread saying about sify doing broadband for 7-10 rps per hour plus £44 set up cost- this sounds good but is it definitely true??? and how much kerfuffel does it involve??
thanks very much everybody- if anyone knows please tell me, if only so i can win a point?
Have any of the people on here who own property had the internet connected in their homes in Goa.If so how easy was it, and what sort of costs are involved.
The good points are it's wireless, so if you move house/appartment you just pick it up and take it with you - Also no wires to get pulled down by falling palm leaves etc.
It does have the problem of reception, it was never too good at our last place but here we have all bars all the time which definately helps.
I think it's quite expensive at about 1900 Rs.- a month but as it's on 24/7 and we always need access to upload new photos to our website / reply to emails it is reliable.
Setup cost (if they don't try to rip you off like they did me, I think is about 1000 Rs/- (but that was over a year ago....)...
Hope that helps
Rob
Does anyone have any info on "bluetooth" type connection in Goa? as I understand it you can arrange through your mobile provider and it's sent through your mobile for less than 10 roops per day?
Thanks for the info,i will look into it when i arrive.
Does anyone have details of establishing a "Bluetooth" type connection through an Indian provider in Goa. I will be taking my laptop with me, I have an Indian sim card and understand you can use"Bluetooth?" connection for about 8-10 roops per day standing charge?
we get the yearly sim from them at 3000rps are nrmally there for 4 1/2
months so put the sim card in when we get back there in Nov and at the end of the year just get another.Worked out about 6rps for 24 hrs.Is a bit slow somtimes in the early evening .best time is early mornings, its pretty quick for dial up.If you go to Calangute, theres a phone shop there called Arte Douo, and take your lap top and phone he will sell you the sim card
and then set it up for you.As you enter Calangute on the main rd,go straight over the roundabout by the temple towards Baga and its just on the left round the bend. His very helpfull See u Split
Many thanks, JG
