Hi Sliema2, my husband will be based in Valetta. At the end of the day, I think it'll depend on where we can find accommodation that will suit us. But it is very useful to know about travel times and commuting problems.

Whilst I like the look of Mellieha (from the website) it probably isn't the most practical location. If it was down to me we'd all move to Gozo instead! What a choice, eh?

Thanks again for all your help.

In which xase you might want to consider Sliema, Msida, or even in the South somewhere like Marsaxlokk or Marsascala.

Hello Susan,

I also prefer Mellieha (having bought a small apartment there) I may sound a little biased but the village does have everything, from decent restaurants and pubs to more than 4 beaches that are only a five to fifteen minute drive away.
I have used the new roads and have driven to the airport in thirty minutes so Valletta should be no more! Also the ferry terminal to Gozo is only 5 minutes away.

Ahhh, but the children will be going to school in Pembroke and that is on the NE coast? Unless I've been looking at the map upside down again,

m&n, now I do like the idea of nearby beaches and a ferry to Gozo! Is it possible to also get ferries to Valetta? Maybe my husband would prefer that to driving, I think he'll be based somewhere near the docks anyway!

For myself, I do like a sea view and coastal walks but I think my wishes will be fairly low down on the list  Perhaps I'll even take up diving again, or sailing..............so much to look forward to :D

Hello, how come it's changed 'NE' to 'any' ? School is on the North East coast anyway.

Only ferries to Valletta are from Sliema and one per day from Mgarr on Gozo to Sa Maison just outside Valletta.

i think kappara would suit you well
i have stayed there several times. it is just off the regional road with good bus links about 10 mins to valetta on a good day if your driving kappara is a quiet middle class suburb lots of nice villas a 10 minute walk to the national swimming pool for swimming lessons, 5 to 10 mins walk to san gwann for the shops and 10 mins northwards on the regional road to pembroke. hope this is useful

Thanks, happychef! Kappara.......sounds ideal. Mind you, most places in Malta sound like they're just 10 minutes from everywhere else, :D

I'll add it to the list of places my husband must visit next week, along with San Gwann, Sliema and Mellieha, the school and the supermarket

At this rate he'd better not be planning to get any work done, lol!
