My husband is half maltese and I have visited Malta twice, both before and after having children. Both times have been equally disappointing to me. I found no where catered for children and we visited quite a few restuarants during the two weeks we were there. I found the food awful and malta generally very unclean.
HOWEVER I am obliged to return next summer as my husband wants to visit relatives and he loves the place....sorry I just do not get it!!!
Is there anywhere where I can sit by a clean pool or beach and which offers some entertainment for a three and four year old.
I really want to fall in love with Malta as my husband wishes to buy a place there sometime in the near future but unless I am impressed this time we will continue arguing about our yearly holiday and I will spend two weeks pining for a greek salad...or cypriot if I reallly get my way!
Malta is so expensive to take kids to and I want to get it right this year for all our sakes. Please Help me!!!!
Hello Ana, although I have not been to this hotel a friend of mine has good reports for it, it is the four star Hotel Mellieha Bay in Mellieha Bay your husband should now of this bay, it has a good beach with shallow water for the kids, at the hotel there is a kids zone for 3-12 year olds, three pools, family rooms for up to 5 people. to take a look at this hotel look in theThomson Summer Sun brochure it may be in others as well.
The restaurants in Mellieha are v. good with the exception of one or two that is!

The places to eat that I would not recommend are Tunny Net and the place located on the outside front of the Seabank Hotel (il Rancho) I think . Tunny Net is okay to sit and have a bottle of wine or two on their harbourside .
The better places to dine in my opinion are found further up the hill!
Dave
My favourite restaurants are Il-Mithna, Reflections, L'Amigo,Half Way Inn, La Salita. The Arches, there are others that I just cannot remember the name of at this minute but like I have said with the exception of the odd one or two all are at the very least reasonable!
you have just made me miserable because I cannot visit these places until November
Although we are of to Tenerife for new year after it being so wet and cold last new year in Malta the only good day we had last year was the day we went to Mellieha village.

We had to hire a car and chase around the island for where it shone. Strange weather mini climate there.
We took our children to malta three years ago when they were 7 & 9. We had a week in Gozo first and then a week in the Westin Dragonara in St Julians. This hotel was quite child friendly with nice pools (busy though) and a large restaurant where for each adult that ate a child under 12 could eat for free. It also had a room for kids with playstation etc, and there was a very nice lounge. It's in lots of brochures.
As you are probably aware St Julians hasn't got a beach just bathing pontoons off of the hotels, and its quite adultly outside the hotel of an evening. The best beach we found was at Mellieha Bay.
