mandyc, the signs are still there, a few on the wall next to the shop, and a few over the road opposite the shop too.
I have only shopped there once years ago, one of the times we stayed up at Mistra Village I took a walk around the bay. I had my dog with me and I was given a huge bag of bones for free.

Happychef Alan, you are correct in that cuberoll is rib eye steak. It has a bit of fat in the middle, popular for bbq, I sometimes buy a whole piece for roasting, but yes, inferior to UK steaks. It sells at around Lm3.50 a kilo, fillet sells at around Lm7, so it is certainly not what we would know as a fillet, Scottish or otherwise. The price of meat has rocketed since Malta joined the EU. Most people agree that Maltese pork is very good, and the local chicken is superior to the imported variety.

Has anyone tried the Maltese olive oil? It is excellent. Lm2.75 for a small 250ml bottle, but sometimes you will find it at greengrocers just bottled up without a label in a 70cl wine or spirit bottle for Lm4. The local wild thyme honey is also every good.

agree on the honey - best comes from Sannat, Gozo :D

beef has gone up alot as it used to come from outside EU, but now import tariff, but pork and chicken seem to be the same as its normally local

Yes, quite right, I should have said beef rather than meat

No doubt you do have better honey over on Gozo, you have better countryside. Lucky for me I know a greengrocer lady who makes regular trips to bring us your superior fruit and veg, everyone knows that Gozo melons are the best, and why is it impossible to find a Maxxok type ftira on the big island

Hi Ingliza, fully agree on the Maltese olive oil it is an excellent product, very pure and quite peppery aswell, I have a good supply of it here we always bring a few bottles back with us, in fact only today I have had it on cherry tomatoes with oregano in a dish for my lunch, I often take a quick swig of it just to remind me of Maltese lunchtimes and always drizzle a bit over our gbejna when we have one with gallettis on a Saturday night.
