just got back yesterday after a fantastic week and already been on line trying to book to go back, but can't get a flight till May from Glasgow would like to go in Febuary but nearest airport would be Manchester.
Scotland only fly out May to October to Hurghada not fair

Anyone give me any ifo on Hurghada as thinking of going for a week middle of January with the wife..??

Hi i was wondering whether anyone could give me some info on Hurghada in January me and my partner are going for the first time to egypt and we are a bit apprehensive!!!
Normally our holidays are Tenerife, Majorca and greece we are used to going out till 5am partying!!!
We chose Hurghada for a bit of a chill out but would like to know if there is any nightlife???
Also what's the weather like in January?? and what is the dress code are skirts/dresses allowed to be worn whilst out?? and what about topless sunbathing??
I know there is a lot of questions there but we'd appreciate any info

Come, come, come. But why apprehensive?

Hurghada in January during the day is absolutely beautiful, not too hot, but warm enough to sunbathe. There can be a wind at times, but nothing like the UK. The temperature does drop at night, but being an ex pat from the frozen N.E. Scotland, a light jacket is enough.

Dress code for outside: Well for tourists just about anything goes, and I mean anything. Please bear in mind that you are in a predominantly Muslim country and show a bit of respect. T-shirts cut to the navel with skirts up to the navel is not on. Shoulders for those of us living here, are always covered.

There is plenty of nightlife in Hurghada: Papa's Beach Bar is one of the hotspots, Blackhouse Disco to name only two. Your best bet once you get here is to ask your Hotel for the free copy of the Red Sea Bulletin. It will have all the different venues in there.

Thanks for the info it really has helped the only reason i'm feeling a bit apprehensive is the fact that i have never been to egypt before and have heard good and bad stories!!
My dad has been trying to put me off going stating that it is not 100% safe for tourists to visit egypt at the moment, but is it really safe to go anywhere nowdays!!!
I have another question for you how much would i be looking to pay for a transfer from the airport to my hotel as transfers are not included in our holiday?? and i do not want to be ripped off!!

Sorry Suzpar perhaps I have missed the thread, but what hotel are you going to be in? Let me know and I will give you a guide for taxi fares.

Hurghada may not be that great but i'd have to recommend the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh hotel there. It is absolutely beutiful and the best i've been to in egypt. Not cheap though although we got it for about £550 pp through justegypt.com which was cheaper than the high st agents. It's spa is excellent too.

Hi one and all,
We are going to Hurghada soon, staying at the Desert Rose Resort, and would like some idea of what we will expect to pay for a taxi from the airport.
The resort is South Hurghada, approx 17km from Hurghada. Near to Lilly Land resort. From what I can tell from the map on Go Red Sea, it is at the end of the bay, on the road to Makadi Bay.
Anyone know the area
I have the Desert Rose internet sit, but it doesn't give you the distance from the airport.

Hello everyone,

Could anyone tell me what the sea is like in Hurghada. I have heard that there are a lot of jelly fish. Is this the case?

Is the water clear enough for snorkelling from the hotels beaches or can this only be done by boat trip.

After reading so many negative reviews on Hurghada, I am beginning to wonder whether I had made the right decision with this resort

If they are anything like the ones at Sharm they are completely harmless. My kids had a great time playing with them !!

Agree with Mrs Mac, if they're the same as the Sharm jellies then you'll be safe.
They don't feel particularly pleasant if you swim through lots of them, you just have to forget they're there, but they won't hurt you.

We didn't see any many jelly fish while we were there, but we did stay mainly in the hotel pool as the beach wasn't up to much and neither of us are into snorkling ... and I have also read about Sharks in the Red Sea...how ever unlikely it may be it still spooked me out

My brother has been stung in Egypt by Jellyfish, he was in Taba though! (don't know if there is any difference in type!!) said it was very painful and left a mark that looked like a bruise.

On a slightly different note, I am confused about Hurghada. Some say it's dirty/shabby while others seem to have enjoyed their time there.

Can anyone advise the best hotels in Hurghada and which part, north or south, is best.

And are the locals friendly towards the British?

I am really starting to have second thoughts about going, can anyone help?

HI, Have you looked through the hotel reports They should give you a better idea of which one to go to.

We found that the staff at the hotel we stayed at were very friedly towards the British. They really want more of us to go to Hurghada.

Your hotel sounds really nice, but we are a family of four and they don't seem to have any 4 bedded rooms, unless they have sold out.

What age are your family

The rooms are big enough for two, plus one young child.
If the children are older, most of the rooms have connecting doors to the next room. But that would mean paying full price for children.

Have you been in touch with excel. They are the ones we booked with.

My children are 14 and 10. I've had a look on excel, but I have to ring them if I want to book for 4 or more passengers, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow. Thanks for your advice though, it's really appreciated.
