nelly.... i like many on here have been to Turkey many times and i for one have never seen or heard of any hotel staff attacking guests infact i haven't seen any Turks attacking anyone!! They annoy you a little trying to get you to go in to bars, restaurants and shops but they don't attack you :no

Stop worrying and just look forward to your holiday i am sure you will have a great time.

I really can't imagine in my wildest dreams anything like that happening.I'm sure we'd have heard about it on here before now if it was true. I have never seen a bad report for the sirca apts in fact they have all been excellent.
Hope this puts your mind at rest you'll have a great time.

I very much doubt it would be the staff attacking tourists, in all the years I have been to Turkey on holiday, I have never ever seen any thing like that at all.
For a start they would be fired as the tourist is greatly valued, they all go out of their way to be helpful and are so cheerful even when they have been on their feet for long periods of time, infact I dont know how they do it. So put your mind at rest and enjoy your holiday, dont forget to tell us all about it when you come back.

I have witnessed staff being rude to tourists on occasion, but nothing to that extent

hi everyone thanks for all your supportive replies they are making us feel slightly better now. i have read these reports in the hotel reviews section for sirca apartments, i would like to think that most if not all people who use this excellent site are 100% genuine. some of us are actually relying on people like yourselves to give us honest and reliable feedback on things like places to stay, places to eat, places to visit etc etc. i have travelled to a few places around the med and further afield, and i do like to think that i can find some useful information on the country that i am planning to visit. once again i thank you all for your help and support on this matter. :D :D

Hi, check the Hotel Reviews section on this site (sorry, don't know how to put a link in). Sue Paterson from Luton and Steve from Liverpool both report violent incidents between guests and staff at the Sirca apartments in August 2005 and July 2005 respectively.

Saw the reports earlier and wondered, as there is only one side of the story told.
Whilst not doubting the truth it would be interesting to know what led up to it.
In the past I have occaisonally had to complain strongly in some hotels about various things but have NEVER been threatend even when tempers have become very strained.
I can only imagine that this is a "one off" incident.
certainly hope so!!

yes it would be interesting to know exactly what went on. I must say in my experience (i lived in turkey for 2 years) Turks can become very volatile when confronted or when things do not go their way.

The only,"violence", we've encountered was on two occasions. Our Hotel in Hisaronu was the venue for the Turkish Night and the Staff felt they had the right to physically man-handle their own guests to take part in what was being performed, virtually ripping your arm out of its socket !! In Gumbet, chilling out by the pool and one of the Staff, a well built lad, deemed that everyone had to join in his games around the pool, to the extent of physically dragging you off your sunbed or throwing you in the pool. One of which was Tug of War across the pool, I have still got the scar on my arm from where I slipped over. This attitude of the lad took some of the shine off our holiday and so are unlikely to be returning to this resort. We go on Holiday for peace and quiet and not to have our days planned out like in some Holiday Camp. Consequently, we avoid Turkish Nights and exercise a firm, NO, policy to any physical activity in or around the pool area.

That incident happened to a middle aged couple from my town.It was reported in the local paper and on TV that the couple had been to the apartments many times and were friends with the owners but one evening they had one drink to many and things got out of hand!.

The turks are the friendliest people i have ever met and doubt they would ever lay a finger on a tourist; they are more likely to kiss you! Plus its not worth it for them, if they attacked a tourist they would be sacked on the spot and their job is everyhting to them as most are fairly poor. it's funny actually we has an incident on holiday where we suspected one of the british tourists was beating up his girlfriend, the turkish lads were trying to calm it down and got nothing but abuse, but stayed calm, later we asked why they didnt just hit this bloke and they say they have a firm policy of not hitting anyone unless they are struck themselves, in which case if i was the bloke who had hit them i'd be scared. :D

Gemz,
the turks in the tourist areas may be as you say and i agree.
but its only fair to comment on the fact that two british football supporters were stabbed to death in istanbul a few years ago.
Like anywhere there are good and bad people.
In general though i agree with what has been posted above, I have never had a minutes problem in Turkey and have only been treated with warmth and friendship

hiya nelly,
I have never been to sirca apts but i have been to Bitez its a beautiful place in Turkey and very relaxed. I have heard reports of girls being attacked in gumbet and bodrum and the two cases I have heard of have been from security guards in the hotels there .... but in both cases it has been attacks from foreign workers both have been british and from england .... The Turkish people have always been in my eyes (very respectable) so all i'm saying is watch out for tourists be it english, american, irish or german .....chinese, african, french, jaysus the list goes on .......what i'm trying to say it happens all over the world just be vigilant and careful going out alone in any part of the world. Please enjoy your hols and just be more careful than you would at home .....(that means not getting drunk) ha ha as if that wud stop ya .... get pissed enjoy and make sure ya have some eejit to walk ya home .......

I agree with missmarty that these things happen wherever you go - everywhere has good and bad people. I lived in Turkey for 2 years and the Turks are not always as friendly as they seem, just like anybody else they loose their rag (some more easily than others).
I have witnessed Turkish people being violent on many occasions, towards eachother, towards their partners and towards tourists. This does not mean they are bad people, I have also witnessed the same in this country. It is human nature I suppose.
