We are off back to the Ramada Caravela in 3 weeks (and counting!). When we were there last March all the beach sellers were removed at the instruction of the hotel manager.
Does anyone know if they are back again this year?
BTW - we have never had a problem with them and think they are just part of the fun of Goa.
I returned from Ramada Caravela on Monday 9th Jan, 1st time we've stayed in the South. We were originally booked for the North and the tour operator changed our reservation (along with loads of others) at the last minute. What a wonderful hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday there and have decided that we will go South next year. The answer to your question is that the sellers are indeed there. There is a group of about 8 women who approach you as soon as you walk onto the beach. Personally I found their prices to be a lot dearer than the sellers in the North and it was a good job I was sat down when the one I chose to get some purchases from started her sales pitch. There was also another seller who seemed to cover the local beach shacks and her prices were also what I considered to be over the top. On both occasions I got my purchases at less than half the asking price but still felt that I hadn't got a bargain. Enjoy your holiday.
Many thanks for the response. Know exactly what you mean about needing to sit down when they say 'come and see my little shop'. Last year the girl working the shacks was Sarah and her husband Mark (he spent most of his time round the back drinking Cobra). Sarah was lovely and worked so hard trying to make money - whenever she had enough she would come and sit with us. We never were pushed by her to buy anything, but did get us to look after her son one day! Entertaining a 2 year old where there is a language barrier can be quite challenging, but I found the international language of ice cream worked well. Did you meet Anita and Sheila (sellers as you walk onto the beach)?
Was the old drunk guy still there selling carved elephants? Often found passed out on the beach!
Glad you found us Shorty Doris! I hope to hear more from you! You obviously have interesting stories.
Hey Shorty, we were at ramada last feb and met Sarah, Mark and all the others- great people! going back on 12th feb 06 for our honeymoon(must be magic)!
Good luck with the wedding.
We are going out on Saturday (4th) for two weeks so look forward to hearing how the wedding went over a beer at the swim up bar!
