"Taxi Watch"
A lot of confusion about taxi fares and bad feeling being generated. So sad.
Maybe we should keep an active thread about taxis. If we have done recent taxi journeys then it would be a good idea to let us all know how much the fare was. that will benefit us all, and , in the long run, be of benefit to the 'honest' taxi driver.
Perhaps we could include auto-rickshaws in this. The better that we, tourists/travellers, are informed, the better it will be for all. I have heard of so many unsuspecting older tourists getting ripped off. So sad.
I was in Goa back in December and my wife and I are going again in a few weeks time for our 25th anniversary. We will be based in Colva. I am going to start this off by stating how much I paid last december for a taxi. If we all do this then it will be helpful.
We could include tips on how to get a better deal. costs for waiting time and return journeys- stuff like that. I hope you all agree.
Margao to Colva Cirlcle=== 70 rupees.
Bus to Margao from Colva== 7 rupees.
auto-rickshaw from Colva Circle to Hotel Oceanique(about 1km)== 30 rupees.
hope all this info will take off and lead to a better informed tourist/traveller.
Good idea Pedro, it can be a little daunting if you have never been to Goa before not knowing if you are going to be ripped off or not, and some WILL take advantage of a pale skinned westerner.
Marinha Dourada to Baga 80Rs,
same to Candolim 160-200rs
From 11am to 5am yes that long! we paid him 1300Rs which included going to Ashvem beach back to Vagator, back to MD, then back to Anjuna then back to MD. so cost of £18 - cant get a personal chauffeur here for that for 18hours!
airport to cavelossim 475 rs ( taxi desk near the exit door)
cavelossim to candolim 550 rs
taxi from 10:00 till 5:00 pm tour of south goa 1500 rs
and if you go to Mumbai contact Renny on 9833478292 he was great, full day tour of Mumbai in a/c taxi 1200 rs (he's Goan by the way)
I have a personal minimum fare of 40 rupees. I work this on the basis that it's got to cost close to that in fuel alone regardless of where you're going from and to. This is what I pay from the Prazeres to the beach, about 800 m I suppose - I know this is alot relatively but I'm naturally lazy, my legs were not designed for walking, they were designed for dangling from a bar stool. A long walk for me is from the front door to the car. I've tried excercising but unfortunaetly the gym I joined had a bar between the entrance and the changing rooms so you can imagine what happened.
Candolim to Ashvem, we usually pay 1000 - 1200 but that is drop us one day and collect us two days later so the driver is actually doing the journey 4 times.
Candolim to airport or vice versa about 450 rupees.
Anywhere else I seem to pay 150 - 300 rupees. This is calculated on the "Can I be Bothered to Walk or Drive Scale". As explained above walking is usually outof the question unless its to or from the car or taxi and the drive bit revolves around the number of hours until dark, how much fuel I have in the tank and whether I'm intending on drinking at the destination. I also find the fare home increases exponentially with the amount of Honey Bee that's been consumed.
good idea for a thread.
and there is always obsticles in the way of the bar its not on
Didn't poipleshadow do a list a while back of all fares throughout Goa, if he did I am not sure how to copy it into this thread.
thanks premiercuts!
Any motorbike taxis knocking about in the main resorts ?, I used them all the time up in Vagator, very good and cheap, you can spot them with the yellow front mudguards.
I still think we need people to post their 'fares' and 'recommendations' from and to other places in Goa.
Personally I am interested in taxi fares around the Colva area.
Thanks to all who have given fares. Cheers!
Thanks very much for this information, it's always good to have an idea of how much a 'reasonable' price is.
Fee from airport to Holiday Inn 480 rupees. Taxi from Holiday Inn to airport twice that.
Also, why are air conditioned taxi's more, when they never use the aircon and have the windows open anyway?
The reason they don;t have it on is the same, they use less fuel without it on so make more money
