Barbers

Without a doubt yes,

one of my holiday treats is to not shave myself and nothing is better than after a day in the sun than to have a proper shave & head massage to get you ready for the evening.
I only know the locations of them in Baga/Calungute but I am sure someone will point you in the right direction.

Hi Foofoo,
Yes there are lots of Barbers in Candolim, & yes, they are all excellent value for money. I regularly get a shave whilst in Goa.
Great close shave with cut throat razor & head massage, you feel fantastic afterwards, Cost around 150 rupees max.
Can not wait to get back there in April.

Best Regards
Stewbacca :D

Right on the T junction in Candolim there are two barbers who do the full works.

I find the one that is slightly closer to the Prazeres hotel the better of the two.

Stewbacca is right about cost, I usually pay 150 rupees for a shave; head massage et al and you feel great after.

The best one I have found is in the middle of a row of single storey pan tiled roofed buildings opposite the small veg market in Candolim near the football pitch, you do need to look for it but well worthwhile. The posters on hair styles make fascinating reading, apparently it's a very old business and was used by the Portuguese garrison when they were there, It doesn't seem to have been properly dusted or cleaned since those days. It's a great place to spend an hour or so and the shave, hair cut and massage are all great. If I remember right the "salon" is behind a bike repair shop and is at right angles to the main Candolim/Calangute road, again the price should be about 150, probably ten times what the locals charge and you can see that in the face of the guy when you ask to pay him, but who cares.

I'll agree with Fritz about the barbers at the Candolim crossroads,I visit every year for my head shaving and an old fashioned chin scrape - as for thr head pampering, you can't beat it ! the menthol oil they use at the end of the massage makes you feel really fresh when you walk out of there.Very skilled, very hygenic and good value.

So this is why I can never get a hair cut for 20 rs/- any more! For a hair cut and a shave you should be paying around 30 - 50 Rs/- (if you are Goan) I can get a hair cut and basic head massage for 30 Rs/-although it took me a while to find anywhere who would (mapusa), 150 is a days wages! - It's ridiculous! Sorry for the grumble.....

Yes I agree with you, I pay well over the odds but I not Goan nor do I live there all year round so not normally there to negotiate terms. Once I am there full time I'm sure I will reduce charges !

Agree with everything and have tried several barbers over the years. Never had a bad experience but the costs escalate as the extras get piled on!

The best haircut/shave/massage I've had was in the barbers on Mapusa market. Difficult to describe its location but it's one of the small shops facing outwards that are a part of the permanent market building in the centre of the market. There are three chairs in there.

Came out with really good haircut and a scalp that felt like it had been annointed with a vindaloo and then soothed with creamy yoghurt! Looked better than it sounds!
