Chicken (off the menu)

I heard last night from a friend that Alton Garden Restaurant on Baga Road has stopped serving chicken as a precaution against Bird Flu.
Does anyone know if anybody else taken this action???

blimey what is everyone having for breakfast then?, and of course that means that the egg chef at every hotel will be looking for a new position.

I don't understand why as when chicken is cooked (as long as it is cooked properly, which it should be) there is no chance of catching bird flu, you can only catch it if you come into contact regulary with live chickens!

and from what were being told on the news etc they dont seem to know much about it anyway
looks like we'll all have to have a beer for breakfast lunch and dinner :wink:

Had two poached eggs for breakfast this morning,had a chicken dish last night and at Mapsa Market on Friday there was loads of live ones sitting trussed up ready for sale and the big Chicken Royal place in Calangute was open for business as I past a few minutes ago, so I dont know where these stories originate Alan

Candolim is still serving chicken.

Casa Sea Shell was doing a roaring trade in their kebabs last night.

Have heard that the price of king fish was upto 160 rs per kilo.

I hate lamb... they don't eat cow... taking out the chicken and the eggs... :shock:

After my post yesterday saying there was no problem we went to sousa Lobos in Calangute last night, and when I ordered hot & sour chicken soup for starters I was told all chicken dishes were off the menu! When bird flu was first detected in the next state the Gov. advice was dont eat chicken, they then banned all imports into Goa and said Goan chicken was safe to eat and gave the same advice as Europe. However with the ban on cheap poultry imports the price has shot up and I think thats the real reason behind some outlets taking it off the menu rather than any imagined health worries Alan

Given that the perceived wisdom is that as long as it's cooked it's fine I would say Gramps is correct and it's more to do with a lack of chicken than an actual ban on it.

I can understand why chicken imports into Goa would be stopped but isn't the big fear here that it is being spread by wild migratory birds rather than farmed? All seems a little like bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted to me.
