I have been on the internet for the last fortnight looking for the perfect holiday to Crete next year for my daughters 18th and husbands 50th. (both on the same day!) My other daughter will be 15 and they all love horseriding. - I don't!! Does anyone know anything about 'Odysseia Stables' in Avdou? Although they have a hotel there it would probably work out a lot cheaper to get a package deal maybe to Stalis and then book a few days out hacking at the stables. If anyone has any advice about horseriding in Crete I would really appreciate it. How far is it from Avdou to Stalis and also what about car rental?
Thankyou!!!
It seems there is not much info about horse riding in Crete. A travel agent told me yesterday that there are very few horses in Crete and people come to England for horse riding rather than travel to Crete!! I didn't realise we had a reputation for good weather here! If anyone can give me any info about horse riding anywhere in Greece I would be very grateful.
Go to http://www.stalis.info and just type horse riding into their search engine and it brings up a phone number of stables in Hersonissos hope that helps.
Rick.
Their standards seem to be very different to the equestrian industry in the UK.
If you do decide to go make sure they supply you with a decent riding hat.
Hi, if you are looking to stay in Stalis, there are 2 riding centres that I know of. As Rick mentioned, one in Hersonisos and another one in Milatos. I will try and find some more info in the next day or so.
Zorba's Ranch, Milatos, Tel Esther 0030 6945 333639 (mobile), probably about €15 - €20 by taxi from Stalis. They cater for beginers with no experience to experienced riders. If you are the later you can rent a horse for the day and go and explore. they also have a riding school, which my wife attended last year and enjoyed, apart from the pain!!! The horses are well looked after, the owner is Dutch.
Of course there are plenty of good riding establishments in Crete. Any tour rep who says there isn't doesn't know the country very well. I work near Heraklion for the Ippikos Center (this is in the town of Karteros). All our horses are anything but "skinny" they are all Arab cross and bred and trained to be ideal for beginners and advanced alike. We're 300m from the beach so trek out daily to there and are open every day except Monday. 0030 2810 381523.
http://www.eurodriver.gr as they are our preferred provider. Brett
We can arrange holidays in Crete based around the equestrian center here. Accommodation is nearby, and we can arrange an all inclusive package for you (you have to source flights though). We are 10 minutes drive from Heraklion airport, and the beach is nearby. As for CAR HIRE you may want to try Post a Reply
