Hi,
First Choice reps at the airport will direct you to your taxi, actually they will bring him to you. If you want to give a tip, you will have to exchange some english money at the airport money exchange (minimum amount only...absolute rip off rates). I have heard that some people have been able to obtain a small amount of rupees at Gatwick Airport so if you are flying from there you could try that.
hope this helps

Do they charge that much!!! Robbing*******. If you can get out of it, get your own taxi from outside when you land

A transfer to Candolim shouldn't cost that much. I don't have a problem with waiting for the bus to leave but suppose a taxi is a quicker option. It isn't a huge arrivals hall; collect your baggage (don't bother with tipping, and certainly not a pound coin), and then head for the exit. It does look like madness when you come out but there will be loads of reps with clipboards etc who will ferry you through (dead easy) to your taxi or bus. It's just like any other arrivals in Spain or Turkey etc etc just a little busier. No probs at all. I don't expect a taxi driver will necessarily expect a tip from the airport (expecially not at those rates!) so I wouldn't feel too guilty; you can tip your regular taxi driver in resort once you find one (or he finds you!)! If you want you could change some money at the Bureau de Change within the arrivals, the rate isn't as good as in resort so I would only change a little bit (check your notes when you get them). Once at your hotel you will have no problem getting ruppees (in the hotel or at numerous change bureaus).

Thanks all for the replies -I should explain we bought the taxi transfer as part of the package-why did we bother with such luxury? because it cost just £21.00 return.
It may be a bit over the odds but at £7 each (for there is 3 of us!) I thought it was a bit of a bargain.

Sorry for the confusion and horror I may have caused.

It was My Travel that was £40 taxi fair, when you are asked while filling in the extras.

Do you wan to eat £15 p/p

Seat with leg room £199 p/p

Insurance etc. etc.

Average should be around 6-700 rupees to Calangute, just a quick tip for those people using their debit cards, there is an atm on the road near to the naval base as you leave the airport, much better than the airport rate.

Have a great time, very jealous now.
