Hiya people i think this topic is very serious especially to old people and familys who want to stay out later than noraml as most poeple do on there holidays

I am in total agreement with you. I think its important that we try to establish the precise location we are all referring to as 'Muggers Alley', as from reading all these replies, I believe we are not talking about the same place. I think we could all be referring to different places.

Its also worth pointing out at this stage that apart from being a popular Holiday resort by the sea in Spain, Benidorm is also a large cosmopolitan town and as such, we should all excercise a modicum of common sense and take reasonable precautions to avoid becoming a victim of a mugging. For example, how many of us would walk down a dark unlit, or dimly lit alleyway here in the UK (wherever we live, there are always alleyways or 'short cuts'), late at night or during the hours of darkness? So why would you want to stroll down a dark dimly lit, or unlit pathway alone late at night while you are on holiday? No matter where you are on holiday.....it could be Benidorm, Llorett, Calpe or anywhere.

I mean take for example 'The Yellow Brick Road'. Now that is a good little pathway to use during the day to get down to the beach etc, but at night....now thats a very different story.....at night its very poorly lit and with all the trees and shrubbery present could be a 'Mugger's Paradise'....I certainly don't use the Yellow Brick Road when its dark....no matter how many people are still out and about. When its dark I stick to the main roads.

But you are correct, this is indeed a very important subject, but I think we do need to establish EXACTLEY where this 'Mugger's Alley' is located and is there more than one Mugger's Alley?. Could this just be a nickname that has been given by us Brits, like The Yellow Brick Road, The Square, and Cardiac Hill? Or is this place really a haven for active muggers and other low life?

Anyone reading this topic who has not been to Benidorm before should NOT be put off by what you have been reading, just excersise the same common sense you would here in the UK and I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. The Muggers Alley that I know of can easily be avoided and you are not really saving much time by taking an alternative, better lit, route. Taking the short cut along Muggers Alley would save you at the most maybe 5 possibly 10 minutes, but is 10 minutes really worth the risk of a possible mugging? Not in my humble opinion.
