Hi everyone... i just stumbled upon this site whilst trawling around..
I would appreciate some information about booking holidays in april.. I've looked at all of the major holiday companies and the season appears to start in may.. I have heard very good reports about bulgaria and would like to spend a week's holiday there... Now the confusing part... I support middlesbrough f.c , and they are in the uefa cup.. They haven't progressed yet to the next round , but if they do they will play a side from bucharest... What i would like to do is spend a few days at say, golden sands and then catch the train to bucharest.. I have read that you can catch a train from varna to ruse , and then get over the border to romania and catch a train or taxi to bucharest... I'd spend a couple of days in bucharest and then travel back to golden sands for the last day or so... I know it is a crazy request for info, but i would love the idea of doing this trip... any information is really appreciated..
thanks, greengrass
As you have found, the season doesn't really start in the Black Sea coastal resorts until (in my opinion) mid-to-late June, although the tour operators have 'stretched it' into May.
If you want to go in April, you will probably need to look at booking a flight & accommodation separately, e.g. Bulgaria Air (INVALID URL fly Gatwick to Varna for around 500 Leva return (approx. £175.00).
Varna may be a better bet for your stay than Golden Sands at that time of year, as it is a city, with lots to do, rather than an out-of-season holiday resort. Golden Sands, Sveti Konstantin & Albena are an easy bus/taxi ride away, if you fancy checking them out.
From the BDZ timetable, there appears to be one train per day Varna-Ruse (3hrs 45 min journey).
Hope this helps,
Baldur
Thank you baldur... Yes the information you've given me is really helpful, i will start looking for flights straight away.... Do you have any idea what the situation is like from ruse to bucharest... i.e .. transport and border controls, will i need any further documentation , or is it simply just my passport... Thanks again for the reply....... greengrass
Probably the best thing that I can do, as far as the visa is concerned, is point you to the Romanian Embassy website - looks as though there should be no problem, as the visa situation is more relaxed than Bulgaria's for UK citizens.
If you need a reasonably-priced hotel in the Varna/Sveti Konstantin area, feel free to send me a private message via this board & I'll let you have the details of one that I use (at 15 Euros per night for B&B, inc. airport transfers).
Regards,
Baldur
thanks baldur i might take you up on the offer. All of your answers are really appreciated.. greengrass
