I am sure Air Malta own Belleair?

The company is actually belleair - http://www.belleair.co.uk

They are an Air Malta Company - one of several.

Under the flights forum on this site you should find info on the airline excel or XL as they are sometimes known. They don't always have the best track record as regards delays.

Re - hotel - can't help you I'm afraid - have a look to see if there are any review on this site.

Hi johndoe :wave

You can find more reviews and also some photos of the Preluna Towers & Spa which is located in Sliema HERE

As previously mentioned belleair is part of The Air Malta group of companies and have been around for many years, so you shouldn't have any problems.

Excel are one of the larger charter airlines and they have also been going for many years, they have taken a bit of stick in the last year or so because of some delays, but generally their flights leave pretty much on time. We have flown with them many times and will be again in June.

Have a great time in Malta

Hi John, I've flown Excel Air twice, never had delays, great flights, aircraft not too big (I hate the planes with 8 seats across!) and staff friendly, would highly recommend.

Hello all, I would like to add a few comments to this link. As most of you know Malta is one of my top 2 places to holiday, but have noticed that there is a bit of keep it in the family with some off the things they seem to do.
E;G up untill they joined the E U it was very hard to get a job here, and as some of the comments above, a lot of the travel companies seem to be owned by company Air Malta, Belleair, Malta Direct, Captain Morgan and the Fortina hotel a long with others, so when I say the same company do I realy mean the Maltese Goverment?
Have you ever noticed in most of the travel brochures in the pictures of a lot of the hotels round the pools and in the bedrooms the people in them all seem to be Maltese.
This is just a small number of points to bring up and hope it gets you thinking, I am not knocking Malta for doing it, if other countrys did it and looked after there own well all the better for them.
Alan, in your link above you say that you find Malta Direct cheaper than Belleair, when we were looking to book our summer holiday for this year we had both brochures and did find Malta Direct cheaper on the book price, but when they put on there flight supplerment and fuel tax it came out dearer than Belleair plus Belleair include travel guide, and two visits to a attaction, so for us it was cheaper for the same hotel with Belleair this time.

Never looked that closely at the people in holiday brochures, but would quite understand why Maltese companies would use Maltese models. I have read somewhere that you could only be employed over there if it were shown that there is not a Maltese person to do the job, which is fair enough on such a small popular island. obviously, the Maltese don't like picking on tourists for timeshare!

The only company I would hesitate to deal with would be anything to do with Malta Bargains (if anything goes wrong, you are on your own!). I have booked mostly online, using MyTravel, Aspro and Low Cost Beds in all cases I have managed to get 2 weeks in May or Sept s/c for £226-270. This year I've managed 2 weeks in May at £215. Boyfriends daughter works for Thompson so got a bit of discount but the prices in their brochure were surprisingly cheap to start with. It really is worth shopping around then researching the place before you go.

jo - "I have read somewhere that you could only be employed over there if it were shown that there is not a Maltese person to do the job" - that was true, but I've just received my residency card (not id card), and it says on the front "has the right to take up and hold employment in Malta under the same conditions as Maltese workers", but this only refers to "nationals of a member state of the EEC" (funny, I thought the term EEC was replaced by EU !) - I thought the labour market was being partially protected for 7 years after joining the EU, but it seems not !

However, I have found most companies have the unofficial "Maltese first" policy so
you could only be employed over there if it were shown that there is not a Maltese person to do the job,
very true

I suppose Maltese first is understandable as their country is so small. Lets hope they have a shortage of legal or medical secretaries when I decided to take the plunge and emigrate!

Hi Dave,
Yes you are quite right about keeping things in the family. I think it true to say that 'everyone knows everyone' or at least knows someone who knows everyone' on the islands. We bought an apartment in shell form which is now finished but all the tradesmen that we used knew who used to own the land, who all the neighbours, are, the builder who built the apartment block, who the investors were and of course which tradesmen did what work in each of the apartments. A very close knit community.

m&n,
You don't need a copy of Yellow Pages in Mellieha! Need something done? Just ask at one of the pubs

Hi johndoe,

We used Excel a couple of years ago to fly to and from Malta. I'm pleased to tell you that in our opinion it's probably one of the best airlines we've used for this journey. Would certainly use them again,
