Hello all you Goa lovers! Has anyone been to Vietnam and can you tell me if it's anything like Goa?
We've just come back from Goa for the 3rd time and had a fantastic time again. However, I fancy trying somewhere different next year for a change. (I do but my hubby's not so sure). I really want to find somewhere that's laid back and safe yet not commercialised. We like hiring a bike (scooter) and finding great beaches. We don't mind a bit of sight seeing but mainly like to chill out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Tracy
Im not too sure to be honest but when we first started going to Goa in 1996 my dads friend who recommended Goa to us said he was trying somewhere new because Goa was getting too touristy for him, and he chose Vietnam. Ive always wanted to go to Vietnam, heard lots of nice things about it. Take a look on the far east forum on H/T where Fiona is also the mod
This time in 3 weeks I will be in Vietnam Tracy! Look out for my report in the Far East forum. I do know that prices are really cheap as in Goa( although I don't know if they are as cheap!)There is also a carry on with visas as in Goa. It costs £43 for a visa. The main beach area is Nah Trang -

I was in Vietnam a few years ago, and it really does depend on where you are planning to go in terms of North or South.
The North is a lot more chilled and serene, and in many parts quite french looking. There were also very few tourists when I visited.
The South on the other hand was a lot more livelier, and probably more like Bangkok was 15 years ago.
Goa is a lot more eveloped than the North, which Ithink is the nicer of the two parts.
well Saigon and the Mekong Delta were brilliant. I will review it on the Far East forum when I get over the jetlag. Just back half an hour ago so signing off here for today!
You lightweight Fiona!!!
