Hello,
Could anyone tell me what either Paphos or Protaras are like for finding some or the more traditional places for eating and drinking? We want to avoid the English bars with karaoke if possible!
Thanks,
Bec
no matter which resort you go to for the better quality and cheaper prices you need to go out of the resort area.. most of the larger villages have taverna's used by the locals.. if in doubt make friends with a local and ask where do they and their family go.. often it will only be a 3-4 CYP each way taxi
Also, both the resorts have a choice of both traditional and more commercialised bars/restaurants so its really up to you which you frequent
In Paphos you can avoid it more easily as most English Pubs etc are in on street "Bar Street"
Take a drive(if you have a car)to a village for food like the locals eat.Try Stone Tavern in NeoChorio for home cooking.
How nice to see someone looking for traditional Cyprus food rather than just cheap beer and English fry-ups.
I don't know Protaras at all, but if you decide on the Paphos side of the island, I would recommend a trip to the Kolios Winery (just do a Google for Kolios Winery Cyprus and you'll find their website with map etc).
You'll definitely need a hire car to get there, but it's an easy drive - 35-40 minutes from Kato Paphos. They do a wonderful meze lunch - can't remember how many dishes, but there were plenty. Also included was wine, coffee and a piece of cake to finish. All for CY£10 per person. Also, the winery is situated at 3,000 feet, so the views are impressive.
Anyway, whatever side of the island you choose, I hope you have a great time.
Thanks loads, thats just the sort of thing i was looking for - just had a quick look on google and found it no problem! You can't beat trying all the foods and drink of somewhere new, thats one of the main parts of the holiday for us!!

Happy island, the seagull, Daniels and Za Za's are great traditional tavernas in Paphos, let me know if you need info on finding them
Thanks! Any info would be much appreciated is i'm still in the early days of finding out about various places etc. I think its looking more and more likely that we'll be staying in Paphos - though Limassol has been suggested too with it being more central and easier to reach other areas of the island - its just all too confusing!!
