Hi again. Okay cannot comment for Kalamaki, however, as you know, can for Kefalos.

There is NO chippy! Yes you can get pizza on a lot of the menus, but they don't specialise, don't forget, Greeks like pizza too  Majority of tavernas offer authentic Greek food, there is one place specialises in Italian to a certain degree - \the Golden Fleece, but also does all the Greek dishes too, there is also ONE Chinese, and ONE Steak House the rest are GREEK, and one maybe two fast food places Manos being one of them.

As for demanding stew   , hope they served him with a good Stifado :D :D :D

Hope this helps a little

Hi zebadeee, been to Kalamaki once, and as you say it was ok. Some good tavernas, some not so good, I think you'll get that anywhere. Chippy wasn't open when we were there, but I don't go on holiday to have a fish supper :)

As for which is best, Kefalos or Kalamaki, I have to admit to being slightly biased toward Kefalos having visited the place eight times in the past five years. It is one of the friendliest resorts I've been to, and I find the people on Kos in general to be more hospitable than some other Islands.

As for demanding stew , hope they served him with a good Stifado

Mmmm......Stop Inn......rabbit Stifado.

Thanks guys
You have reassured me.
I understand that Greece is a modern cosmopoiltan country, and the Greeks are just as entitled to eat international cuisine and McDonalds as everyone else. And beleive me I undertand what its like to be a picky eater! But I don't go on holiday to spend the full two weeks in the same mock irish bars and chinese restaurants as I do at home! Life is too short.

We found a fantastic greek restaurant in Kalamaki last year. Didn't serve chips let alone pizza. Really excellent greek food, fantasic service. One night we were the only ones in there!! We just couldn't understand it.

Zebedee - just on another short note, as all over the world the 'chip culture' happens in Greece too, even Kefalos doesn't escape unfortunately. Tend to get a few fries with all the meals as well as boiled rice, suppose you could always ask for no chips

Hi Zebedee
Just thought i would mention that i have stayed in Kalamaki and enjoyed it, we walked along the beach to Laganas some evenings and have to say it was a great holiday, however its not a patch on Kefalos!!!
Kefalos is picture perfect and its a relaxing holiday with lovely restraunts, tavernas and one or two more livelier bars that have triple glazed doors that get closed at midnight so as not to disturb guests in nearby hotels/appts etc.
I always like to try new places but definatly hope to return one day. We went in to Kardamena one night and was glad we had booked Kefalos even though we had a very good night there.

The only thing Kefalos and Kardemena have in common is that they are both on Kos and begin with the letter K!

Only visited Kefalos a couple of times while we stayed in Kardemena, but it seemed so quiet and chilled and the beach was beautiful. As for Kalamaki, we stayed there 12 years ago and were just outside the village. In the village even then the food wasn't as good as outside and the portions were smaller and more expensive.

Oh, I almost forgot the Gyros in Kefalos were excellent and ideal for eating as you rode in the sun on the motor bikes!
