There is a walk through the National Park called the Siete Canadas, which is idiot proof and gives spectacular views of Teide and surroundings. Once you have located the start you just stay on the wide track all of the way to the other end. Also, there are no serious hills to climb so you can just relax and enjoy the views.

From PDLC, get the 348 bus to the parador to start the walk and follow it to El Portillo where you can get the bus back. There is only one bus a day but there is plenty of time to do the walk in time to catch it. To locate the beginning of the track, log onto my website at http://www.cyberhiker.co.uk/tg.htm and follow the instructions for the Montana Guajara walk until you pass the barrier at the end of the tarmac road. Once you have passed this you just stay on the track until you reach the other end ignoring any turnings off along the way. The walk overall is around 8 miles long but is very easy.

Cyberhiker do these walks not have an official guide with them from the Parks Dept and do you not have to get permission to go on them from the same department?

Hi,

I suggest that you think about getting the walkers' guide book for Tenerife published by Sunflower Books - details can be found at the URL below:

http://www.sunflowerbooks.co.uk/tenerife.htm

I've used their one for La Gomera and walks in the south of Tenerife and found it excellent. They include walks from gentle afternoon strolls to strenuous full day treks and each walk has detailed instructions plus good sketch maps outlining the route. They also usually include details of buses etc so you don't have to re-trace your steps. They also usually include a couple of suggestions for car tours too.

Hi Allmen,

I believe there are guided walks along this trail, although a guide is certainly not required for the Siete Canadas walk, unless you want the knowledge (flora, fauna, geology etc) a local guide could provide, as it is basically one long, wide track that is easily followed.

It is not necessary to get permission to follow the Siete Canadas trail or any of the hikes on my site, variations of which, are found in most walking publications for Tenerife. The only exception to this is the final summit climb to the peak of Teide, which now requires a summit pass obtained in person from Santa Cruz.

There may be areas within the park that you are not allowed to hike without permission but I have never heard of/encountered any. I would imagine that there would be signs advising you that you were not allowed to walk in these areas, should they exist.

Thanks for the reply cyberhiker I just thought thas it was a protected area it might not be available without the guides.
