Hi, can any Manchester Locals tell me if 'The Coronation Street Tour' is still operating? I've heard some stories that it closed a while back, but I don't recall seeing any publicity about that. I'm thinking of taling my mother their for a birthday treat.....or at least I was....but now it seems I might not be able to.
IF it is closed, does anyone know why?

Oh dear, what a shame. I've been trying to think of an unusual present for my mother's 75th birthday, and as she is an avid Coronation STreet fan, I thought that would be ideal. Oh well, back to the drawing board I guess.
What about taking her to Buckingham Palace or something ?
Yes, that was another possibilty I had thought of, but my mum is not really a fan of the Royals....well, not to any great degree. Not sure how well that would go down. But I have it on my list of possibles. I have about two months still to get something organised.
Hi have you thought of taking your mum where Heartbeat is filmed, it is a lovely village called Goathland on the north york moors. They have the steam trains running all through the summer and if your mum is a fan of the program then she will love it. We have just come back from there and stayed at a very nice B&B if you want the address then pm me
I think the Emmerdale studio tours have also closed.
i would prefer the heatrbeat area. stay in the lovely market town of pickering with its quaint shops and beautiful surroundings. here you can catch the north yorkshire moors railway which is a fantastic day out and with a full ticket you can get on and off at any of the stops on the way to grosmont.
goathland station and the train was used in the first harry potter film where the station was converted to hogsmead station, but the village although up a rather steep road is well worth a visit as eveything is as it is on the set of heartbeat.
there are also other film and tv locations nearby which can be visited within the same holiday. good luck searching and i hope you find somewhere nice for your mum.
I live in Manchester and can say Coronation St tour has definitely closed. This was because of lack of funds. It was quite expensive to go and each time I went there were not many people there at all. A shame really.
It was my mother-in-law's birthday recently and we bought her tickets to be in the audience for 'Countdown' which she thoroughly enjoyed. If you look on the website I am sure it wil give you info on how to get tickets. It is just an idea, but my mother in law is 75 years young also and she loved Countdown.
Hope this helped.
Love Dizz xx
Is she a huge Corrie fan? Beverley Callard has her own pub in Eccles, Manchester and is often in there, maybe you could call and ask if she could be in there and take your mum for a meal or something.

Hi, yes I have actually been to 'Heartbeat County'.....Goathland, I had not thought of that....but I like it, and I think Mum will as well, she is a Heartbeat fan.
That has just gone right to the top of my list of possibles.
That is most strange to hear that. I thought tickets for who studio based TV shows where an audience is required, that the tickets were free.?It was my mother-in-law's birthday recently and we bought her tickets to be in the audience for 'Countdown' which she thoroughly enjoyed
Yes, to the person who asked, my mum is a huge Coronation Street fan.....apart from when we have been on holiday (and even then she will get it videod), I don't think she has missed an episode.
Briar, thanks for those Doctor Who links.....I'm a Doctor Who fan, but you are right, I don't think my mum would appreciate it. No, I think Goathland is an excellent idea....unless I can think of anything better....still got a few weeks.
It was closed and alot of it demolished so the set of Corrie could expand
