We are looking to go to Kefalonia at the beginning of July. Ideally we like to go for 10 days, but it's proving almost impossible and cheaper to go for 14. I'm happy to sit on a beach for the whole time, but would there be enough to keep my other half busy, as he's not the greatest of beach fans.
Also, which is the best resort to go to - we are late 30's, who like a bit of night life, but not too much. We do however like good Greek food.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Have you looked at the members resort reports yet? there are several in the resort forum on the
We stayed in Agia Efimia and found that a great base - we hired a car for a few days and a boat one day, which was good value and also used the local ferry to get about (much cheaper that tour op prices). There is a also a dive centre based there if he is interested in that kind of thing and bike hire.
There's a good variety of tavernas, plus if you have a car, you can visit other places to eat on an evening - we had a couple of lovely meals in Sami, just along the road.
The island has an underground lake (Melassani) which is worth a visit, as is Sami, Myrtos beach, Assos and numerous other places you'll just happen upon. If you are feeling fit then there is Mount Enos to climb!
One thing to point out though is if you want a sandy beach then you'll need to look for another resort as the beach and coves surround AE are pebbly (lovely smooth pebbles). Not a problem for us as we are not into sitting on the beach but I thought I should mention it. Maybe Lassi or Scala?
skala looks quite pleasant though it is growing in size. fantastic huge sandy beach, nice old part to town, growing collection of tavernas and bars, though nothing too crazy.
on the quieter side of that just down the coast is katelios, though that might be too quiet for you if you like a bit of nightlife, limited as it is to a small collection of restaurants and a couple of bars.
i find the friends of kefalonia website very useful as it seems to be quite frank about different places and there really is a lot of information up there.
