We are thinking of taking a 4 night break and want to visit Glastonbury and Longleat. Can anyone suggest the best place to stay thats convenient for reaching both places? We would like half board somewhere if poss, perhaps a Best Western hotel or similar?
Also is it likely we will need to visit Longleat twice to see everything? Is Glastonbury as interesting as I have been told it is?
We will be travelling from Manchester area.
Many many years ago when our son was 'doing' Stonehenge at primary school we made a visit similar to yours. There was a Little Chef with accommodation not far away. Try Travelodge/Premier Travel Inn/Holiday Inn Express or similar for reasonable accommodation in the area. There was certainly enough at Longleat for a full day even at that time!
Glastonbury is interesting, but there's really only the Tor to climb - great views - the ruins of the Abbey and the small museum in the Tribunal. There are a lot of "new-age" shops selling crystals and incense and suchlike, if you're into that.
There's other stuff to see in the vicinity, though. The cathedral at Wells is simply stunning, and the city itself very cute. Wookey Hole is a good day out for the kids.

Alternatively there is this one in Frome....

but I don't know anything about it
or Shepton Mallett the other way...look here

But both these are small towns.
What about staying in Bath?
There are lots of good hotels there. There's lots of things to do in Bath itself (the baths!?), and you're only about 45 mins drive away from the other places you want to visit. I think there's a thread about it on here.
Hope this helps!
Thanks everyone for your help.
