yes there are some cockroaches in malta just like the rest of the world, but don't worry too much as the lizards will eat them. what most sightings of roaches are probably the chicadas in the trees, these are harmless. malta has a wealth of wildlife, but rarely seen and they are mostly harmles, i have not seen any sandflies or hornets for years

Hi dylano,

In all the years I have visited Malta I can honestly say I've never seen a cockroach! I never even thought about finding them in Malta until you raised the issue. Mind you virtually everywhere else we've been to in the Med, they seem a feature of life - but not on Malta. Maybe the lizards really do eat them? :hmmm

Hi dylano, Trev & Alan, I can honestly say in all our visits to Malta we have seen only a few cockroaches, they are visible if you sit at Sliema ferries in the evenings as they seem to crawl in and out of the litter bins but not seen many, however on the subject of vermin has anyone ever seen rats in Malta, we have seen a few dead squashed ones whilst out walking in the countryside but thats it i'm happy to say.

rats - loads when out with my dog (see kills hundreds !), but the biggest problem both with rats, cockroaches and sharks are the two legged ones !

Seen the odd dead rat in Malta. I'm sure I read or heard someone say that in the UK you're never more than something like 20 yards away from a rat! Don't know if that's true but if it is then we sure can't complain if the odd rat turns up in Malta, especially if it's dead.

You can unfortunately find brain dead rats in Malta, walking about on hind legs around various well known haunts - trying to sell timeshare!!!!!!

thanks for all info on cockroaches feel better now we are staying at the grand hotel mercure it is either in buggiba or qaura we went to benidorm a few years ago and the entertainment was fantastic dont expect anything like that in malta though a cabaret or comedian would be good
