Prices in Skala

Hello Again,

2.5-3 for a large Mythos
2.5 for a glass of wine
1.5-2 for a soft drink
4 for a spirit and mixer
5+ for cocktails

Not too bad and I think one place did a happy hour affair, but you're right - most places don't.

Hi Vicky

Which were your favorite bars in Skala.

We've been to Nidri in Lefkas, Stalis in Crete 3 times, Dassia in Corfu and Kalamaki in Zante in recent years. We love Greece in the summer and wish it was warmer in October as I'd be there in the half term holidays.

The prices appears the same as we paid in Crete this year.

Hello,

My parents were in Nidri over the last two weeks - we met them in Fiskardo in Kefalonia after they came over on the boat - very odd to have a family lunch in Greece!

There's a bar called Veto and one called Scandinavia across the main road from each other - both get a bit livelier later on but Skala never gets too loud.

I also liked the Pines Too which is on the beach and has an odd crooning chappy singing which is quite amusing.

There's also a bar in the grounds of Neufaro restaurant on the main road which I really liked - quiet and in nice gardens.

I'm told that Pikonia on the front is the place to go in high season and has lovely grounds with a pool - it had closed the day before I arrived though.

Given the places you've visited before Skala sounds perfect in terms of size and action.

We have visited many Greek Islands over the years but since the Euro was introduced Kefalonia the prices have risen but as we love the Island so much we continue going, we go to Lixouri which is difficult to get there by brouchure and a lot of people find dull but really suits us two 66 year olds and also slightly cheaper than other resorts, the people are the most friendliest we have come accross, but always find Greeks friendly, scenery out of this world, for us it has everything we want, can't wait for our next visit, it's a place once people go there they always feel they want to return. suppose there is the odd exception so far never come accross it.

I`ve only been to Kefalonia the one time, 2 years ago, and understand perfectly the feeling of wanting to go back again. I went with my daughter and 2 grandchildren and a female family friend, and would love to go back with my husband , as it`s just the sort of place that he would love, but our passports have expired, and as I`ve mentioned before, he says it`s not worth renewing at our age, and nothing will change his mind, so I`ll just have to make do with my memories.............

I cant believe you are not renewing your passports at your age. We've been holidaying in Greece for 25 years and only ill health would stop us, certainly not age, have another word with him!!!

Unfortunately once he`s made his mind up, that`s it. Because he retires in a couple of years time and we won`t be able to afford holidays then, he reckons it`s a waste of money to renew now, and as he is your typical Andy Capp type Northern husband his word goes, he`s the boss, or so he says!

my foreign other half ( the pendle witch) is of a wee bit older older than myself but would not consider giving up traveling even if we had to resort to the£100 last minute specials which abound..

So will I be, if I could find someone to go with, I`d seriously consider renewing just mine and tickling off, and leave old grumpy guts at home!

Dear Ernie bilko

You are quite wrong, the bars in Scala do have happy hours. Having young children at the time (9 and 11), we used to take advantage of eating dinner early and being early enough for the happy hour period.
Our strong recommendation is SALLY'S BAR, which is located near the swings and slides in Scale square. She made some wonderful non- alcoholic cocktails for our children, whilst combining an adult feel to the bar for us. The year we went, we had 6 days of rain. We had great fun in her bar as all the early customer's had to congregate behind the bar to keep out of the rain. She was so nice to all of us, I hope she is still there, and if you go please remind her of 4 years ago (with the rain, sea tornado's and thunderstorms) and the couple from England with the 2 children with brillant blonde hair.
It is an expensive Island compared to most we have visited, but it is a beautiful place. If you compare it to Skiathos, then it is good value for money.

Go and enjoy!!!!

Hi Rhombus. Just booked for Scala, staying at the Porto Skala. This will be our third time to Kefalonia (stayed at Lassi and Sami). Wanted to try Zante but got such a good deal we couldnt refuse  Will there be enough for our 11 year old to do?

Dear Pargaluvva,

My son was 11 or 12 and my daughter 8 or 9 when we went to Scala. They made friends easily and there are a number of pools to use in the locality. There is also an outdoor cinema down on the coast road where we watched Captain's Correli's Mandolin. The beach has the usual banana boat rides, pedallo's etc. There is a good mix of Taverna's, Restuarants and bars, try Sally's bar, good for both children and adults. You can feel a bit isolated staying in Scala, but we hired a car and explored the Island. The transfer from the airport is quite long (1.5-2 hours).
We had a great holiday, but unlike other Islands we have been to, we do not anticipate going back there. For us it did'nt have that WOW factor.

The only place i find really expensive on Kefalonia is Fiskardo. If you visit there take a couple of hundred extra euros!
Prices may well be a little higher on Kefalonia but you are only talking say 50cents more for a mythos? It's only around 30p and anyway, you're on holiday so enjoy the island and the amosphere! 8)
