We went last year and hired a car and there are lots of places to visit. Forrnells, north of Mahon is picture perfect as well as some of the inland towns such as Aloir and Mercadal (Spelling?) for a potter around and cheap booze and ciggies as there is no resort mark up (watch out for he afternoon siesta!). Mount Torro has a beatiful little church at the top and on clear days you can see most of the island, the views were breathtaking. Alot of the best beaches are on the south coast (although the north stunning too!) and only accessible by car, such as Cala Mitjana, the turning of which is about 1 mile before Cala Galdarna. Powder white sand and baby blue sea set of by lust pine trees and cliffs. There are no facilities on alot of these beaches but do'nt let that put you off!

we are off to menorca (cala galdana) first week in june for our 5th year running. we stayed at calan porter last year and had a great time, it is quite low key. 2 good restaurants one with the tortoises in the garden area, name?. and the one on the corner above souvenoir shop both good value and service.
If you have children cala galdana is the best for beaches, beautiful horseshoe bay with very shallow waters. (get there early it can get busy.
Cittuedella is a most. Calas Coves secret beach with trogladite caves around cliffs, beaitiful turquoise waters. hard to find. Last year we walked from calan porter across rough tracks(3km approx). very nice walk. ask somebody for directions.
Arenal de castell and fornells(best for food) are great too.
